This AD is the gift that keeps on giving.

Gary's time at Iowa is quickly coming to an end

And not a moment too soon. With regard to the story, don't fool yourself... our old pal Sally surely had some influence in this as well.

The changing of the guard is under way. Thank god she's gone, GarBar is next.... and then...

Email mandating female hire ==> slap on wrist
Email mandating male hire ==> see ya, don't let the door hit you on the way out

How is this football-related?
A percentage of posters want KF fired.
A subset of that population believes that Barta is too spineless to fire KF (or think that Barta believes KF is doing a great job).
Therefore, the only way to get rid of KF is to get rid of Barta.
Thus, football related.

And thank you for your diligence, Mr Hall Monitor.

So because of the burrito lift, all pancheros conversations are now related to Iowa football as well

Since when I eat pancheros, I have a high risk of shating myself, is all poop talk related to iowa football? It would make sense since Iowa football is sh!t lately.

Good grief.............what a RIDICULOUS non-story, that the 'PC' crowd is trying to float, here.

Now, I'm even more VOCAL about giving Gary Barta a raise!! SHOW ME THE MONEY!!!

Now, Barta is doing an excellent job, negotiating the Loafer, EX field hockey coach and the
loafers, generally in the tenured PC morass of academic theft of taxpayer monies.

Get Barta a raise NOW!

Shouldn't this being in writing prior to the field hockey firing destroy their case? Isn't a big part of their lawsuit pointing how many woman's coaches have been let go? To me, it would seem the FH lawsuit should be thrown out. Perhaps I just haven't followed it enough.. 5 minutes probably isn't enough.

Assistant track coach.

Dumb to put it in writing, but anyone who thinks this doesn't happen everywhere....lol.
Yup it happens everywhere thanks to title IX. They have a certain amount of "diversity" they want to achieve be it women or minorities that they want to hire so they can rattle off stats and percentages to brag about it when they go advertising the school and comparing themselves to others. It's either that or they want to just tip the scales the other way to "make up for" the past I guess. I didn't see Bartas name directly tied to this but he is the head honcho and that falls under him regardless....

It's convoluted to be sure. This is what happens when the focus isn't on hiring the best person. Bond Shymansky should have been hired as the volleyball coach when Dingman was hired (his resume was just plain better). After more years of losing, Iowa was fortunate enough that Shymansky was an Iowa City native and still willing to take over the program.

And this particular issue with the assistant track coach position doesn't necessarily invalidate Griesbaum's lawsuit. Her contention is that Iowa treats male coaches differently than female coaches. Trying to look at it objectively, it will be an interesting case. Iowa has canned under-performing male coaches. Lickliter obviously. Dahm in baseball (although he was given 10 years). Steve Houghton was allowed to stay on and retire from tennis, when that program was rather bad for a while. On the women's side, Dingman was let go in volleyball (they were dreadful). I don't know the whole story about Gayle Blevins retiring, although there were rumblings she was encouraged to do so. Which never made sense to me, if true. She created the Iowa softball program from nothing. Griesbaum was successful at field hockey, although the highest part of the program came earlier in her tenure. Iowa let her go due to improper treatment of players. Griesbaum will likely argue that coaches like Fran have done worse with openly swearing at players during games, slamming chairs, getting tossed out of games (Wisconsin and UNI). And that none of her workouts have put players in the hospital (like football did with rhabdo). Difference in those cases is that none of the players went to the administration and complained about the coach.

A lot of waters for Barta to navigate in the coming months. New president may have different ideas. If the outcome of the Griesbaum suit goes against Iowa, I don't see how he would survive that. If football goes 6-6 or so, does he make a change there? There have been positive movement in many of the Olympic/non-revenue sports, he just should have taken action in those areas sooner. Baseball positioned much better. Volleyball much improved with a new coach (but the B1G is brutal). Men's and women's golf much better. Track much improved under guidance of Joey Woody. Women's soccer made title game of the B1G tournament last year.

But the lawsuit and the performance of the football team will likely determine his fate.

The swim program is a joke, and has no excuse for it given the cush facilities. Griesbaum is probably using the men's swim team as evidence in the lawsuit; that entire rotted mass needs to be cleaned out.
