Things are going to get worse so buckle up...

A lot of Hawkeye fans are frustrated when a team like Penn State with a new coach and new system can come in an humilate us at home. When they announced davis as the new offensive co. I was hoping for the best but worried that he could be worse than O'Keefe. If JVB played for a top ten program he would have been benched long ago. I would love it if he could get it turned around but it doesnt look good. There is something wrong with our offense and it is not just the QB. If we cant run over people then we are screwed.

I honestly don't think that's what upsets most of us. After watching PSU, they are clearly head and shoulders better than were on Saturday and that doesn't bother me. What bothers me is watching the same thing week in and week out. We're not asking for miracles, we're simply asking for a passing game that shows signs of life. I have no problem with the loss as they were the better team, its the way we lost that gets my blood boiling.

We have five games left and it will be a freaking act of GOD if we win two of them... We MIGHT beat Indiana, we MIGHT beat Purdue (although I am not all in on that either) but the other three teams are going to run over us like a bulldozer! All you fools who were thinking we were running for the ROSES were obviously smoking the good stuff and could not see through that stinky cloud...

KF is betting his desk on JVB. Fortunately for him it's a 20 million dollar desk that no one will buy.

^^^ JBRTHREE, you might want to edit the photo out of your post. Someone does not find political photos in threads other than Political/Controversial laffy. Just sayin...^^^

Things could get worse, but there is plenty of season left for things to get better, and Iowa is very much alive for a decent bowl game. I don't know whether there is another guy on the bench that could play better, but it's clear KF is all in with JVB. So for the love of god I hope they start adjusting to the things he does well to help him out. If KF is putting JVB out their to take all of the physical and mental bullets being shot his way he owes it to him to make adjustments to try to help JVB out. I hope there is some serious analysis going on with the coaches along the lines of "forget what we want to do on offense. What can we do to help JVB play better?" At this point I think the answer is go vertical - order him to throw the fade, call deeper routes, and...wait for it... be unpredictable. Try some things completely out of character like the flea flicker.

My vegas play of Iowa winning less than 7.5 games this year is NOW a guaranteed certainty.

I'm in total agreement with the OP that the first game ruined Vandy. He had that blitz fear last year too. He took a beating at Soldier field and it's been downhill since. He's got happy feet, doesn't step up in the pocket, has no patience to let plays develop and is only looking for his quick outlet. He's playing to not get sacked and to not make mistakes. He throws missiles at close range - almost like that somehow puts the blame on the receivers. Vandy was touted as having perfect footwork and throwing form early in his career - where'd that go? I heard before the season started, he didn't get along well with Keenon Davis - practice ethic thing. That concerned me....a QB & his receivers need to be tight. We have all american tight ends, but he never throws to them. How about giving Weinke some reps? He reportedly was very close to Vandy - no big drop off. He's a senior, he's paid his dues, he's reportedly a team leader, no shame there for Vandy. Give Weinke a chance to step up...Vandy's not entitled to the QB job over another 5th year senior.

next season if Ruddock starts and comes out of the gate on fire people will say why the f--- didn't you play him last year. If he struggles people will say why the f--- didn't you get him any playing time last year?

I now believe that KF is all in with James Vandenberg this season no matter what cards fall from here on out. What does this mean to Hawkeye fans?

Lets start here. In 2009 Vandenberg came in to the Northwestern game with a lead and our undefeated season on the line and possibly a national title run who knows, he was awful and he missed everyone and we generated no offense for the rest of the game. It was a lot of pressure to say the least and he did not respond well. Next week OSU game and no one had any expectations for Vandenberg other than just get us out of there alive. He through several INT's some called back but he play pretty well considering.

Move on to last year and he does well at home. For some reason can not get that road win though expert for a Purdue win that we had to rely on the fumble throat goal line safety to win. Starting to seem like Vandenberg does not respond well to pressure and uncomfortable environments away from home.

Sorry, but a lot of this is BS. He was a RS freshman when he was pressed into action in 2009, so he shouldn't be taking a lot of flack for that.

Don't quite know what you mean by "fumble throat goal line safety to win." Purdue fumbled into the pylon for a touchback, but we still won by 10, so even a TD and 2 pt conversion would have given us a two point lead. Even so, wasn't that more on a defense that gave up a 4th and 18 conversion prior to the fumble touchback? JVB was 22 of 32 (68%) for 273 yards with 3 TDs in that game, so he did his part. He wasn't exactly terrible against ISU (57% for 207 yards and 2 TDs) or Minnesota (66% for 177 yards and a TD). It's understandable why he struggle at PSU and Nebraska though as they had pretty tough defenses.

I think it might be time for a change now, but he wasn't terrible last year.

Come on, you know what happens next if they would have scored there. An unprepared kickoff return team stands there and watches the kicking team recover an onside kick. They're lucky.

I don't know that we would have missed an onside kick, but say that we had and then gave up a score......that wouldn't have been JVB's fault and that was the point of this thread.

I could be wrong and I am not even taking the time to look it up. But I think we won by 10 because that play resulted in a saftey? Anyways my point being I dont think from what I have seen he responds well at all to preasure. He did play much better last season I agree.

It was a touchback, not a safety. We were very fortunate because I sure as h*ll did not want to see an onside kick.
