There's always next year

You know the drill. "Give him time, Fran will turn things around," etc. It's an annual tradition.

Some will be happy with an NIT bid, which is funny for many reasons. I wonder when people will stop grading Fran on a curve because of his predecessor.

Congrats on the dumbest post of the week award!

Will be interesting to see the fan base's attitude next year with more expectations.

Then don't watch.... problem solved

The next 2 years will tell the story. If Fran can't get his squad past round 1 of the NCAA tourney... he'll be a disappointment.

Nobody is "happy" with the NIT, I'm not sure why people keep saying that. There's a big difference between being happy and exceeding expectations. iowa lost 4 senior starters, played 6 freshmen and 4 sophomores. "Experts" expected them to finish between 12-14th in the big ten this year. 3 weeks ago Iowa wasn't even in the NIT conversation. Whether you want to admit it or not, they beat everyone's expectations.

It was supposed to be a rebuilding year

If Iowa can go on a decent run (2 or 3 wins) in the NIT it will be good for them. If they flame out in the first round it could be damaging. I believe Iowa also goes on a european trip this summer which will be really good for a young team...hopefully they don't get lit up by Pierre Pierce again.

Agreed. Early on in this season, I was scratching my head as to HOW we actually got in the position of having to play 6 freshmen and 4 sophomores. I mean, how can you let your team be that devoid of senior leadership? Early performances were pointing at a disappointing season brought on by youth and inexperience.

In the end, I am more than pleasantly surprised to see how well Fran and the team actually did. Avoid the early loss to Omaha and take the ear wax out of the ref's ears at Minnesota, and this team is in.

The next few years will be FUN to watch, as was this one.

Iowa should be in really good shape going into next year. Fran already knows that Bohannon/Cook will get 30+ minutes, Baer/Pemsl/Moss will get 20+ minutes, and fill-in from there. Going into this year about the only thing Fran knew was that Jok would play 30+ minutes. That's it.

Don't you expect a 4-6 win improvement? I do.

I do. Of course. We'll end up 10-8/11-7 in conf but will eliminate some of those embarrassing pre-conf losses.

My point is this year, most people gave this team a pass, expecting Jok to shoot 30 times a game with everyone else standing around. What transpired what pretty remarkable sans the final Indy game.

Next year, no passes from the majority of the fanbase.

absolutely - there won't be passes next season because we will be returning a lot of experience. They will still be young, but expectations will be much higher next season and the standard will be as well.

I can't say I'm "happy" with an NIT bid but it's better than nothing, especially when considering 3 weeks ago it looks like Iowa was not going to reach the post season.

I'm fine with it, losing 4/5th's of the starting lineup from last season is tough when you're not a blue blood program like Duke, Kentucky, or Kansas that can replace their lineup every year with 4 & 5 star players. The expectations get raised next season, this place will be a mess if we are in the NIT again next season.

I'm curious where they will come from. I see losses at ISU, Cincinnati (if both make the preseason tourney final), and whatever ACC team since it'll be a road game for non-conference. We probably won't draw as weak a conference schedule as this year either. Michigan, Indiana and Penn State will all be road games at least once, this year they were all home games. Plus, we probably won't have 13 non-conference games since the BTT is a week earlier next year and the BT regular season starts a week earlier to account for that. Now that could be beneficial with a similar record if it eliminates a couple high RPI teams, but we add Drake back too although UNI sucked this year so that may be a wash. I'd be surprised if we reach 20 wins next year, but our resume could be stronger without an Omaha type loss.

I will be shocked if we don't have over 20 wins next year.
