There is definitely a pattern here

Wonder what this team would have done with Izzo coaching them? Doubt this kind of a disaster. Well at least after one more game Woodbury and Gessel will move on to promising careers outside basketball

I cringe when I think of how bad we will be next year. May have to take up bowling

They have lead Iowa to 3 strait ncaa tournament appearances since 1991-1993 with AC Earl, Chris Street, Val Barnes, James Moses, James Winters and other great talents. I like the work they have all done to help bring the program back to that level.

If the incoming players are better in clutch time than this group is, they'll be fine.

The Ewing Theory is the only hope this program has under current leadership...that the seniors graduating will be addition by subtraction. I'm unconvinced.

I would be ok if I never saw Iowa in a zone defense again for the rest of the year. I understand we have length, but they haven't figured out the whole rotation thing. There is a reason why we are getting killed by the 3 point shot. Also Woody and Baer try to help off their guys too much and don't have the quickness to get back in time.

I would be ok if we never saw a zone D again, ever.

Mixing in zone is fine...the over helping and over collapsing is not. That absolutely has been an issue.

If Izzo would have been coaching this team, they would have a bunch of bad early loses, then finish by actually playing to the level of their ability to get to 12-6. Then everyone would rave about how good Izzo is at coaching his team to peak at the right time when in actuality, they were just under achieving early.

You sound like the typical Iowa fan who is content with JUST making the tourney. I want more, I want a Final 4 run. Enough of this..."oh, I'm so glad we got in, no biggie if we lose in the first or second game, just as long as we get in I'm happy.

But 3 strait tournaments is something that rarely happens at iowa. It's not good enough forever. But how's it not a good stepping stone for now? We go from the worst P5 team in the country to a team who has done something iowa rarely does, we're still moving in the right direction with wins and recruiting, and it's still not good enough? For now at least?

The people who want Fran gone because he isn't producing enough are the people who will always want the next step no matter how high we are. Wanting the next step is one thing. Wanting to get rid of a coach for always falling one step short of the step you want is another. If we were missing the tournament you would say we need to find a coach that gets us in the tournament. Since we are making the tournament you say we need a coach who gets us to the final 4. If we make the final 4, will you say we need a coach that wins the championship?

He is no typical Iowa fan. He's Ghost/Duff/Hawknick/Clinton superfan.

That said, overall the team has achieved higher levels in each of the last 5 years. Always just making the tournament won't always be enough. Heck even making the Tourney and winning 1 game won't always be enough....

This slide has been awful, much like two years ago was awful. Anot her first round B1G loss is awful. But when most living Hawkeye fans have never seen anything beyond the Sweet 16 but once or twice, and the team has climbed out if being a conference bottom feeder just 5 short years ago.

Everyone wants more, but let's not pretend making the dance and winning just 1 or maybe 2 isn't pretty dang good, considering...

That's my arguement too. How can people already say this isn't good enough? I wanted Davis gone for the next level. I still think getting rid of him was the right thing to do. The difference is, back then we were "pretty good" for a long time. It's easier to get to the next level when you're on solid ground as a program. We are fresh off the worst run in Iowa history. That's not to say fans shouldn't want more. It just means they shouldn't demand it yet. The program isn't anywhere near on strong enough footing to not settle for "pretty good". Not yet anyway.

Also Davis was going the wrong way. His teams were slowly getting worse and worse. He wasn't even putting in effort to recruit anymore and it was obvious. Fran's teams are still getting better. He is bringing in better and better recruits every year. If he can get back to back 3rd place finishes with recruits he brought in when we were a dumpster fire, it's a pretty good bet he will do better with the recruits he's bringing in now.

We seem to have plateaued over the past 3 seasons. We make the tournament but not as a high seed. We are soon to be 1-3 under Fran in the tourney. We can't even beat the ****** Big 10 teams in the first round of that tourney. Next season with a super young and relatively inexperienced team I don't see how we don't take a step back. We won't have any big guys so our rebounding will be atrocious. Jok will be our only 3 point threat. And Fran will still be our coach so our end of game performances will be embarrassing once again.
