The Weird Team That Is Iowa.

That nailed it. Great post and link. I have never been able to put my finger on what makes this team so special and I think this hits the mark.

agree with all the rest - great article along with supporting vine clips. that uthoff clip where he 'toys' with the purdue player is a thing of beauty.

Pretty much sums it up. I am old enough to remember the 1970 team with JJ, Fred Brown, Chad Calabra, Glen Vidnovic and Ben McGilmer. This team is that team. I have always be uncomfortable once we get to the NCAA's but this is a team that has every part to be a National Champion. Who would have thought, Undefeated in football, Big 10 champ in Basketball in the same year. Crazy Sh!t.

BARTA!! ;)

"The Hawkeyes win because they have a number of players who excel in ways so uncommon that they create mismatches across the floor." -- The beauty of this team. couple that with a lock-down defender to equalize the opponent along with a bench that contributes, you have a making of a team that can make a deep push in March. Luving this season!

They are a mismatch nightmare. I feel dumb for not having seen it coming in a way. 4 srs and a jr in the starting lineup that have played together for a long time usually equals a good season. But I for some crazy reason (even with the BIG not being as tough as last yr) thought Iowa wouldn't be as good as last year with having lost White and GO. My faith in Woody to make the leap he has this year just wasn't that high. But He's stayed out of foul trouble for the most part played great D and been rebounding like a mad man. I wasn't sure Uthoff had the aggressiveness to just take advantage of whats in front of him. He can get a good look just about every time he touches it wherever he is... And Jok, holy crap he's been just out of his mind good. So you mix in Uhl, Baer and the big roles they've had. (the fact that our starters aren't playing monster mins should pay off huge come tourney time)

A small part of the reason that Woody is getting so many rebounds I think is that Iowa is pushing the ball up the court so well for transitions shots & pushing the pace. This is making teams forget about crashing all players and sending players back quickly, hence, less rebounding pressure and more success. Illinois virtually had nobody really crashing the boards as they were trying to get back after a shot.

Not taking away what Woody has done or to diminish his success, but this is playing into it a bit.
