THE TIME IS NOW FOR IOWA BASKETBALL

Iowa has a chance to jump up in the BIG10 pecking order. Nebby, ILL, and Minny will be going through coaching changes. NW and Penn State should be put in the rear view mirror. This Iowa team can be Wisconsin, but with excitement. Fran just needs to cut dead weight. This is a business, not the YMCA. Fran missed the boat by keeping a couple of players this year.

Ok, I'll bite. Which players need to be cut at the end of the year? I'm guessing that you have 1 in mind which would open up a single scholarship.

Two seniors.

So you think that Fran should have cut Brommer and Archie last year? 2 players going into their senior seasons? And yet we bemoan the SEC for oversigning and cutting seniors to make way for new stud recruits. No way Fran should have cut them. We weren't going to be a tournament team either way, and at the end of the day, Fran's job also includes graduating players. Cutting them would have simply been a move in poor taste

My thoughts too....he didn't foul like Brommer or Dunk/airball FTs like Archie....he just sat haha

Archie only ate up a scholarship for what? 2-3 years? That eliminates him.

JR Angle was awful and just looked worthless. Brommer has had a couple decent games in his career.

I was talking about going into this year (2011-2012) and cutting players. I guess not trying to put together a post season line up for Greatens was not in the cards. I still don't see the light at the end of the tunnel. ISU made it a point to get good in a hurry, Iowa is just trying the slow but painful way. If you are happy about losing and watching bad basketball, I guess you are a better fan than me. Just tired of the: we are young, its all Lick/Alford, and wait tell next year. I don't want to be like the Cubs. Fran has a job to do and its not to be nice and be a YMCA coach.

I don't think anybody is happy about the way Iowa Basketball has been recently.

I realize that nobody wants to hear about "next year" when the past 5-6 years have been poor (I'm no different), but "next year" Fran has a Top 20-25 recruiting class coming in. There's some light at the end of the tunnel - it just sucks waiting for the results.

For the record, I have no problem with ISU going for the transfers to get some quick talent into the program. People talk about Iowa doing it the "right way", but ISU has done nothing against the rules by bringing in transfers, and it's paying dividends for them.

So all Fran needs to do is cut 2 players and we will be good? I suppose then he should reach into the magic bag and pull out 2 all americans and sign them.

This is exactly what he should have done. You remember all those guys that were pounding down our door last spring to get in here? There were like 10 6'10 athletes with only 1 year of eligibility that were immediate upgrades from Archie and Bromer, and eligible to play this year. Then we had those other 20 or so that were under rated 3 star and 4 star HS big men that were holding off other majors waiting for that Iowa phone to ring. Bless their hearts it never did because of our dumb ol YMCA coach!!!!!

I simply can not believe that Fran dismissed all of those options and waited on a 4 year class that he trusted would come in here be an immediate upgrade, hopefully play together, build chemistry and develop as a team for 4 full years. That is the formula for catastrophy. You can not win in this league like that!!!

I agree with the guy with the creepy play on names. We had waayyyyyy better options that we should have used schollies on! We absolutely should not have held Scholarships gor guys like Meyers, Woodburry, Gesssel, Clemons or Ingram... Trash class if I ever saw one.

Look, just cutting Bromer and adding one of those high quality 6'10 transfers that we turned away , would have easily and I mean super duper easily put us in the upper half of the B10 and in the NCAAa...THIS year.

You hear that YMCA coach?!?!?

Next year, spend a little less time on the golf course, and a little more time in the office answering phone calls from really, really talented tall kids who (like all of the the ones last year you made no time for) are dying to get in here! Maybe squeeze them in for a visit!!

You won't be getting away now that me and creepy play on names guy are watching you!!

YMCA Coach!!!

Yep. I am a better fan than you. You continue to try to stir up Hawkeye nation with your nonsense. I guess you are good at that since I rarely post and have posted twice to your threads.

Just so it's known...Caff received his marching orders from Barta that no "dead weight" would be cut.
