The thing I love about basketball season...

I can be excited for a Hawkeye game on Monday night. During Lick's last two years, I sometimes wouldn't even know we had a non-conference game until seeing the score in the paper the next day. Right now, though, I feel like I felt when I first started following the Hawks, and the start of basketball season meant I could get excited about the Hawks 2-3 times a week instead of just waiting until Saturday for football.

Looking forward to another W tonight! This also kind of feels like watching the football team in 2000-01. Every game the team can hopefully jell a little more and maybe have a few more breakout games like MSU and Purdue last year. GO HAWKS!!!

HAAAAAWKKSSSS!!!!!!!!

Does anyobdy know how we can view the game tonight if we are out of state?

Not yet, but hopefully if you keep checking back here, someone will post a free link like they did for the Chicago St game.
The quality was excellent.
Go Hawks!

I would be even more excited if the game was actually on TV...

I have to agree with this. I enjoyed listening to Bobby n Dolph on Friday and will do it again tonight but nothing beats watching them live.

Yes going to the game would be the best of all but not something I can do on any type of regular basis. (ie. 11 and 24 month girls)

at least all these people admit that they are fairweather fans.

I don't give a **** about any of that. I was a season ticket holder throughout the entire Lickliter mess. I grew tired of seeing rows and rows of empty seats all around me and my kid. I welcome back anyone who wants to be a part of Iowa basketball again without judgement.

at least the fan apathy toward the product on the floor got the AD to make a change, maybe if it happened in FB, he might do it again, not calling for anybodies head, just a change in thinking would be in order, like stop the conservative game approach, mixing it up on both Offensive and Defensise scheming. like ablitz once in awhile, or maybe passing on 1st down once in awhile, you know something like that, and as for the fair weather fan, not even close, they would not be that outspoken or angry if they didn't care, some times it takes a drastic move by fans to get somebodies attention, to make them realize a mistake is being made
boycotting games may not be the answer in your book, but it might send a msg, although the fans could just refuse to buy tickets when they become availabe, the thought of not getting 4 million for a game plus money from concession might just shake up somebody

i agree in that i will gladly accept anyone that wants to be a fan, but the notion that the lickliter era made it harder to follow the team is absurd.

Two things; One, You still read news papers?! Two, I absolutely agree. It is effing great to be excited about Hawkeye BBall again. At one point in my life I was BBall fan first, and a Football fan second. That has not been the case for a long time though. While I am not expecting a Tourney run or anything, at least we will make a little noise, and put a competitive team out there. The future looks bright for the first time in a long time. :D

It didn't make it harder to follow them, but when you're not living in town, you don't hear about the games and don't leap to check the schedule when they were so bland to watch.

I went to every home football game in 1999, and I went to a handful of BBall games last year when they went 11-20 and I lived in Iowa City again temporarily. This team hasn't won anything yet, and I was excited about the program last year because for the first time since Mr. Davis we actually had guys cutting and moving with good flow (something Alford's teams lacked even when winning). If not always knowing when they played low-D1 non-con opponents under Lickliter meets your definition of a fair-weather fan, then I have no ground to dispute that I would be one. My level of following/excitement doesn't trend up and down with wins, though. That would be my definition of fair-weather.

If the fact that Iowa basketball is on BTN.com most of the time now is because we have stunk for the past 4-5 years, then yes, I'd say the Lickliter era actually had quite a lot to do with that.. And I'd say the fan base has a harder time following the program if the games aren't t.v. That might not effect us die-hards, but for the more casual fan, it's a different story. Just the way I see it.

Still - That doesn't mean that the BTN can't still televise the games no matter how the team is playing.

which type of game style would you prefer, hold the ball fo 30 seconds then launch a shot and sbore 45-50 pts a game, or a uptempo game that shoot when the shot is there, and score 85-95 ppg, personally i prefer the latter, i also hated seeing Lick sit on the sideline with his elbow on the table with his face in his hands, that was the most disgusting thing i ever saw, and if by boycotting games to force a change and be classified as fairweather fans so be it, to me a fair weather is the type that doesn't care for the team one way or the other and says very little and does the same

I still watched every game.

in the half court, this years team doesnt look much different than Lick ball.

in no way shape or form does it look like Lick ball, the bigs rarely if ever got involved, it was a guard oriented offense, Palmer is proof of Lick's distaste for getting bigs involved, 2 games in a row he got over 20 pts and then got sent to the bench never to be seen again without any reason given, Lick was a terrible coach who coavhed a lousy style, i tried watching, but was like a pot of water boil, very very very booooooooooring, Lick showed NO emotion during games let the other team and ref's do what they would to his team, you can have him;
i hear he might be coaching somewhere now; so go look him up and follow that team
