The sun didn't rise this morning

That was a bad loss for an Iowa program that is supposed to be on the rise. There's no excuse for the lack of transition offense; no excuse for 3-of-20 shooting from beyond the arc; no excuse for 13 turnovers; no excuse for usually reliable free throw shooting dropping to 63 percent (12-of-19). Some key players didn't show up last night and two who did -- Mike and Gabe -- mysteriously sat on the bench for long stretches.

I'm normally an optimistic sort -- tomorrow's a new day, get yourself up off the mat, start over, that sort of thing. But Michigan comes to town Saturday, which just happens to coincide with one of the darkest days in the history of this message board. This morning just feels very dark; the sun did not rise. My updated avatar reflects my mood today.

AAAAAEEEEEEIIIII! YOU'RE RIGHT, IT'S STILL DARK OUTSIDE. Oh, wait, it's 6:30 am in the winter. Whew!

That sick feeling has not left me yet either. I still have visions of them clanking three's running through my head.

I was sick after Michigan State. Not after this one. Maybe I expected this outcome after the first five minutes last night? I don't know. This Iowa team clearly isn't who we thought they were, that is for certain.

They did get their butts kicked pretty much all game last night, it was a minor miracle that they had the lead at the half. It was only the 2nd loss they have had this season where Iowa did not look like the better team, the first one was against Michigan.

I keep having to reduce my expectations with this team and each time it hurts. 3 weeks ago Jay Bilas was saying we could win it all and my idiot self agreed. Now? I think we lose 3 more games and finish in the bottom half of the big ten. We still get a tournament bid but I am already looking forward to next season.

I wanted to buy into the hype but I never did, mainly because you do not see too many poor free throw shooting teams go that deep into the tournament. Now Iowa's inability to hit the 3 pointer creates new problems for the team as that will bottle up the inside in the 1/2 court offense if they cannot hit those shots. People keep complaining about White and Marble disappearing when anybody that scouts this team can easily identify to stop Iowa you need to stop the dribble drive because those kick outs are not going down.

My only explanation/justification (or at least the only one that makes me feel a little better) is this -- OSU is scratching and clawing to save their season. They have a couple seniors that must be hungry to avoid failure in their last hurrah. That's probably hard to withstand, even at home.

Obviously, this team still needs to learn to win. They are making progress from last year, (@OSU and @ILL would have been losses last year), but they're not there yet.

Maybe there's a big win on the schedule yet (Mich, @minn); maybe we can get hot at the right time. Then again, maybe we still have more steps to take.

You make a good point. That little white guy, I forget his name, played as well as I have seen him play all season.

OSU played like hell, I agree. But we are defending our home court after losing to MSU the last time we played there. Its a snowstorm outside yet the fans showed nearly packed the place to show support and had great energy and chants all game. There is something wrong when we get out hustled and show less heart in a situation like that. Tons of credit to the fans, ( really love that we are getting a hostile crown rep) but the team is not rewarding them with good basketball.

When it comes down to it we are still 17-6 and 6-4 in BT standings. Losses coming to only good teams. It would be nice if we could start adding 2-3 non conference games with teams from PAC 12, Big East, or Big 12. Would rather lose to a quality team and gain some experience from the win then a bench clearing 100point game where we just outman at every position. Jok got a lot of playing time in nonconference but was is the point if are rotations are going to be different in the Big Ten. I know Olgesby injury had a little to do with it but not much. We are still going to the Dance although everybody might not be talking about us anymore maybe we can get that chip back on our shoulder and Marble decides to take over like last year's post season run.

Agree. I sometimes wonder if the team is rattled by the home environment (performance anxiety) - even though that would be insane (but, we had that long home streak when the crowds were smaller and quieter). In that case, nothing you can do but learn to adjust. I still think it will happen.

I think this team is good enough to go on a March run, and I can see several players playing well at the same time come March 1, with chips on their shoulders.

Agree 100% I still think this had trap game written all over it after we beat them on the road and had a Michigan team that took us at their place previously coming to our house the next game. I think OSU found out who they were last night and may have turned their season around.
