The sum is greater than the parts

I know it is cliche to make the comment in sports that a team is sometimes greater than the sum of its parts, but this Iowa team is the classic example. I thought going into the season that the 2005 recruiting class would be motivated to leave its mark on the Iowa program. If you look at the toughness and commitment the 05 class has shown, now that they can smell the B10 championship, I don't think anything will derail them. Only Moeaki will probably get drafted, and Dace may play in the NFL, but all of them seem to be giving max effort every game. Judging by how mentally tough this team is, I would think that comes from the perserverance of the kids from the 05 class who have been put through tons of adversity since they got here. I like the fortitude of this team, and think they will see this through to an outright B10 championship. This includes a beating of Sparty on Saturday.

I think Iowa has a lot of marquee players on the team: Moeaki, Spievey, DJK, Sash, Angerer, Edds, Calloway, Bulaga, Clayborn, Stanzi, etc... would all be starting on a lot of other Big Ten teams.

I think this is an absolutely true statement. Sure there are prominant players (Moeaki, Clayborn etc.). But look at Jon's poll about who should be the MVP som far this year.

There isn't a clear cut choice. This is a team by every definition of the word. It speaks very highly of the coaching staff. They've stuck with a philosophy and it is really starting to pay dividends. At how many other schools would a player the likes of Ballard switch positions without complaint becasue it was best for the team?

Very, very few. The coaches deserve a lot of credit for the current culture of this team.

Very true...there is no "the guy" on this team. Everyone makes an equal contribution.

Also when you think that if nobody leaves early for the NFL, Iowa will bring back 9 guys on both sides of the ball next year....it could be another exciting year in Iowa City.

It´s kind of funny Iowa teams are always about the team and no one really stands out because everybody does a lot of good things; every week it is someone different having a standout game, but I think it hurts the national perception of the team with no one player that everybody knows people tend to be turned off by the team, especially since our best players are on defense and they don't get as much attention as the should

Don't care about style points due to hero's on the team. There will always be leaders and people that have the talent to play pro and the more we win the better the whole package will become. Especially if KF and Co. can bring in the talent and get them mins. and keep building.
