The strategy moving forward...

The defense is what it is. It's not a great defensive team. You don't switch everything possible because you have one down year. It can be frustrating as a fan , but it's worse having to hear about it week in and week out.

God ,I hate people throwing out things like" our D is the worst thing known to man".
BS. I've seen many worse this year alone Way to blow **** out of porportion.
The problem is a combination of many things being bandied about the boards.
a. Young,inexperinced
b. Injured
c. Scheme
Now a and b simply take time. c is a product that the coaches CAN change IF they choose to or alternately they take off their panties and let the guys play a little more instinctive.
It doesn't have to be alot. They just have to show enough to put doubt in the opposition.
Wiscky had rolled all season and the QB had no problems until they met a D that challenged them. I lost track of how many times Wilson had to double clutch because a defender was in good position and he knew better than to make the play.
Let them jump a few routes something to give the DL that extra 1/2 or 1 sec they need to get there. Remember last year how many times our guys were just two steps away. Well when you don't place a threat in thier mind it makes it pretty easy.
I also think that D recruiting has suffered due to Norm not being out there on the road. Actually Iowa has done pretty well getting good players considering Norm absense in the process.

I'm not happy with the defense either, but I do think it's worth pointing out that IU was 6-13 on third down-- not exactly all-world. Whatever Kirk told the D-line after those first two drives must have sunk in nicely, because from that point forward they were 2-9 on 3rd. One of those two successful conversions was on the garbage time drive in the last three minutes.

According to the sideline reporter, Coach K told his DL after the 1st 2 Indiana drives (both TDs) that they weren't trying hard enough.

Iowa was playing the next to worse offense in the B1G and that offense put up 24 points against Iowa's defense. Michigan will put up more than 40 on this defense...Iowa had better be ready to score 45. If Michigan's defense does its job, it will be a long long day for Iowa. Same with MSU and NE. And we will be on the road against a Purdue team that is playing better. We could easily lose all four games to finish out this year, and lose three of the games by wide margins. We all know Norm is not going to change anything on defense...nothing.

The bad thing about playing a very predictable Iowa team is when that Iowa team has absolutely no defense. This is a bend and break defense...It does no good to be a bend defense if you can't stop the other team...all it means is that your defense is on the field all the time during a lot of very long drives.

I just really disagree with this. The one thing we haven't struggled with this year is the QB option. I like this team's chances against QBs that can't throw. We'll see how it plays out.[/QUOTE]

I agree neither look to pass first and those are the QBs that hurt us. Those who scramble and buy their receivers time. If they throw it is to one guy and they are usually running a fly or screen. As ling as we don't get caught looking in the backfield we will be ok. I think.

I don't think the D is terrible, maybe a little below what I'd say average, and definetly not what we've had the last few years. O has to carry them this year to get wins...
