The resurrection of Larry Eustachy

:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:
I'm convinced you are insane.

1) The guy can recruit.
2) The guy can coach.
3) The guy can excite a fan base.
4) The guy wins.

He also is a guy who made many mistakes, acknowledged he was an alcoholic, got himself clean and appears to be taking it day-by-day, as every person with an addictive behavior knows they must do.

He appears to have turned himself around and is back doing what he loves to do: coach basketball. How much longer does he have to be banned to Siberia and pay penance before you allow him to come back in from the cold?

Sometimes the Puritanical tendencies of some you Iowans is mind-boggling.

Fantastic story. Well worth the time to read. Great find and thanks for posting.

Somewhat aware that Larry had turned his life around, he was on my list of hopefuls when Bary Garta pulled the trigger on the Lick disaster. I'm happy with Fran but I remain convinced Eustachy also could have gotten it done here, and perhaps faster.

Good for Larry. Predict he gets a shot at a bigger program again before he hangs up the coaching whistle.

I was also on the Eustachy bandwagon after Lick got the bums rush. I'm glad things worked out the way they did. Eustachy turned his life around and Fran is turming the basketball program around - everybody's happy. Except for those that never are.

It wasn't a fireable offense imo and the right thing to do would've been to afford Larry the opportunity to get right while at Iowa State.

I will remain a Larry Eustachy fan and I didn't see it in the article but if Larry wins the CUSA he will have won a conference championship in every conference he's coached in, iirc.

I agree, in part, and would certainly hope that helping Larry get things set straight was part of the conversation the school had with him regardless of the dismissal.

it was definitely a fire-able offense. it was insubordination.

I agree with you on this, but I think the reluctance to consider him for the Iowa spot post-Lick is due to the risk factor more than anything else. All moot anyway as Fran is definitely the right guy for the job IMO.
