The refs really ruined my time at the game

Other people who were there are free to disagree obviously. This was the only game I'll be able to go to this year and when I left the stadium I was just in a crappy mood. Sure we won but god damn did those refs make that game un-fun to watch. From the crappy call on the Easley fumble (I understand the rule and don't like it but regardless in this case I don't think there was indisputable evidence) to the unnecessary and inconsistent call on the Wadley touchdown (that doesn't get called in 99/100 other games) to the number of stoppages for review of things that were totally obvious... man that was painful and I'm really angry about the officiating.

Yes, CJ, they were bad. I can't say they were as bad as the mega-incompetent Conference USA crew that did the 1-1-2006 Outback Bowl. And now that I live in the Tampa area, I'm glad I was not here at that time. They were making up calls, including a phantom off-side when we recovered an on-side kick late in the game.

Only lousy officials make themselves more important than the game itself - and officials THAT bad have no business being a part of a game involving a B1G opponent - in 2006, or yesterday.

Whoever you guys were, back to refereeing Jr. High games - MAYBE you can figure out what to do there.

That game was worse than this one.

They were awful! It seems to be a competition on who can throw the most flags. Every game I've watched is just one flag after another. Ridiculous!

I freaking agree. They are becoming a part of the game and they shouldn't be. Both basketball and football, I think sometimes because they have a whistle they think they need to blow it.

It used to be years ago if the play was close but not sure they wouldn't call it. This day in age if it's close & they aren't sure they blow the whistle. It's the wrong way to regulate the game.

Flags are really starting to ruin my enjoyment of football, especially the NFL. Whenever there's a big play, I expect a flag. Receivers beg for flags after every pass. The way the refs protect quarterbacks. On and on. It just sucks. If I just moved here from another country I'd have a hard time believing I'd enjoy football with all the flags and stoppages

Felt the same way CJ. It was the oddest officiated game I have ever been to, and that includes a bunch of badly officiated HS games. The Wadley call was just dumb, as I saw half a dozen celebrations going into the end zone this weekend alone that were the same or worse.

That Outback Bowl Game was really bad. Almost unbelievable.....

So as warm as it was, you're telling me that you didn't enjoy being crammed into Kinnick for another 30 minutes while they chat and review what repeatedly didn't need to be reviewed or things that they should have gotten right the first time.

I honestly don't know what's worse. Going from a commercial break to a kickoff then immediately back to break or watching review after review. IMO the officiating really took a turn downhill when they started allowing official reviews. You never want a bad call to influence a game, however half the stuff they're going to the monitor on now should be determined on the field and not after countlessly being reviewed. I'm not so sure that having a replay official off the field in communication with those on the field is having as positive an effect on the game as expected.

It's the judgment calls, and the fact SOME are "reviewable" and some aren't. Example would be the PI called on UNT on a CLEARLY tipped ball NOT being subject to review, but the "intent" on a targeting call IS subject to review. That's just one of many examples, of course...

I think they brought this crew in from the Island of Misfit Toys.

I must be getting old. Every play last weekend went against everything I thought I knew about football both pro and college. Calls I thought could not be reversed were and personal fouls called on routine plays that used to be "good" are now "bad". The worst part is you have refs two feet from the live play "get it wrong" and replay officials that have no clear camera angles changing calls, almost like someone say a network, is trying to make a game competitive. There it is I'm officially a crazy conspiracy guy!

My comment during the game was that you got the feeling none of those refs had ever strapped on a football helmet but they all had read the hell out of the rule book. They were clearly not used to B1G conference game speed. And I agree with the Easley fumble reversal. There wasn't a replay angle that I saw that showed he'd fumbled prior to crossing the goal line. It seemed more supposition, to me.

Hey, '44, glad you're on line and hope your family and home survived Irma, well enough. Glad to see you've got your power back. I've heard some still didn't through last weekend.

Was there, they sucked, was hard to stay engaged with those Bozo's! I was really waiting for the bottles to start flying.
