The ref crew in E Lansing is losing this Purdue game-two POed coaches

The MSU/Purdue game went pretty much the way the game in Iowa City went. Purdue had a halftime lead and was getting open looks. MSU came out the second half very aggressive. Same result for MSU. After the game everyone's favorite, Thrice, stated that IZZO wanted better defense, I assume that means get more physical. The difference between the second and first halves was apparent, MSU was stepping up the physical play without too much worry because they had plenty of fouls to use against the Purdue post players. Schilling (4), Costello(4), Clark(3) and Wollenman(1) had 12 fouls between them. They were primarily responsible to guard Hammonds and Haas. For MSU guards had a total of 4 fouls , 1 each for the game. For the game MSU was whistled 16 times and Purdue 24. It obvious that Izzo wanted to stop Purdue from effective post play on offense. The refs missed an offensive hook on Costello against Haas near the end of the game. But the physical play down low really was out of the ordinary the second half.

Dakdick the other night was talking about coaches of the year...he's got Painter, Turgeon, the Grinch...and never once mentions Fran. Nevermind Fran will have a better everything than Painter...and had much bigger holes to fill than the Grinch at Wisconsin. If he goes to the Championship Game in B10 tourney...At 12-6 regular season...he's your coach of the year.

I dont worry about game time analysts like Dakich even if he knows his basketball. Dakich is mainly bringing his daily radio show to the ESPN microphones during games.

Let the official Coach of the Year committee do their job. I just know that most of the talking heads in football and basketball, the Holtz's, Vitale's etc just like to blather on to hear their voice and try to make waves.

You hardly ever get an analyst who calls it like it really is and is not afraid to point out coaches mistakes, conference mistakes, NCAA and NFL and NBA mistakes. Those analysts rarely get their contracts renewed. I cant remember why Trev Alberts was not back on ESPN but he was opinionated and I liked him. Guys like Gruden, Collingsworth, Phil Simms are such TV and ownership shills it is hard to listen to them.

It is this type of ***-kissing that leads to coaches getting more air time than the game itself, and wrongly.

Ref initiates contact with Fran....Fran gets T'd up and ejected. A few days later Izzo storms after an official, grabs his arm from behind, spins him around....no T. Not only no T, but the ref stands there and lets Izzo lecture him.

Tom Izzo is a thug.
Last week MSU played Illinois on a sunday night. It was a fist fight. Terrible, no calls. Both these teams rely on this style of play. If I was a ref, guys like Izzo, Crean and Bo Pelini Ryan would get one warning. On the court? T. Past the line? T. One warning.

I would say without qualification, without knowing the game or circumstances, and without know what is being said that in the top picture that:

IZZO SHOULD BE TEEd UP THERE. That is friggin crazy that the ref is just looking his way and soaking it up.

Man I wish there were mostly John Wooden's who mainly sat on the bench and then when they did get up the refs knew they screwed up.

He was like that later in his career. Earlier in his career he was known as a hot-head coach who jumped on the refs early and often. IIRC, his first two years as coach of UCLA he led the Pac-8 in technical fouls.

He always treated players and officials with respect, never with the Bobby Knight-style fury and bombast. In his entire career as player and coach, he received just two technical fouls -- and he always maintained that one of them was called by mistake, when someone behind him yelled a profanity, and the referee thought it was Wooden.
