The MSU/Purdue game went pretty much the way the game in Iowa City went. Purdue had a halftime lead and was getting open looks. MSU came out the second half very aggressive. Same result for MSU. After the game everyone's favorite, Thrice, stated that IZZO wanted better defense, I assume that means get more physical. The difference between the second and first halves was apparent, MSU was stepping up the physical play without too much worry because they had plenty of fouls to use against the Purdue post players. Schilling (4), Costello(4), Clark(3) and Wollenman(1) had 12 fouls between them. They were primarily responsible to guard Hammonds and Haas. For MSU guards had a total of 4 fouls , 1 each for the game. For the game MSU was whistled 16 times and Purdue 24. It obvious that Izzo wanted to stop Purdue from effective post play on offense. The refs missed an offensive hook on Costello against Haas near the end of the game. But the physical play down low really was out of the ordinary the second half.
