Is Iowa that good or was ISU that bad.

I for one believe the Hawks are good and I can imagine ISU is that bad however I guess we will find out Saturday in AZ.

Weigh in with your comments.

We will find out Saturday. ISU has hardly any depth whatsoever, especially on D. They are also very undersized, and Iowa completely exploited that. I'm not drinking the Kool-aid yet, but if the Hawks come out and dominate Zona, I will be. On the other hand, (and I have seen this said by many posters) Iowa seems to be all business, and that is no BS. Seems like they always know what they're going to do, and why they're going to do it. I love this Hawk team!

This is a team that likes challenges. It has played at some of the great venues in college football on even terms with the elites of college football over the last two years. It has learned to play through adversity by overcoming their mistakes. It is a mature team both mentally and physically. It is an intelligent team and is goal oriented.
The Arizona game is a challenge because it is a ranked team on their home turf, but it is one among many games of this nature this team has been through. It is battle tested. Have confidence that the staff will have this team ready to play lights out Saturday night.

I think it is more Iowa is that good. It was a horrible matchup for ISU, I will now admit iowa's dline is probably the best in the country and the oline was way ahead of where I thought it would be.

Iowa is solid and has good depth. Depth is something we don't usually have at this time. They look as good as I have seen an Iowa team look at this point in the season. The talent is there a lot is going to depend on the mental attitude of the players now.

Too early to tell.

Just like it was too early to make assumptions after Iowa lost 44-7 to ASU six years ago.

AZ went on to a decent 9-3 record, including a 4 point Sun Bowl win versus Purdue.
Iowa went on to one of its best season ever (10-2), with a win in the Cap-1 bowl.

u r absolutely correct eyekwah

Iowa State's "great" first year under Rhoads was largely a myth.

Look back at it... 3 of their wins were Kent St, NDakota St and Army. They were handed their "big" win on a silver platter by Nebraska...and still almost lost it. And the bowl victory...well, we all know about the Gophers. And they beat em by one point... thanks to the Gophs choking at the end. They also beat perennial doormat Baylor (4-8 overall, 1-7 in the big 12) and Colorado (3-9 overall, 2-6 in the big 12).

So while they may be better than they were 2 years ago... not much.

I think it was a little bit of both.... but I think with all the seniors we have this year, I am confident that we will come out focused and ready to play every single week.

I kept on thinking about how Iowa's OL just manhandled their DL ... and I was kinda wondering what was up with that. It briefly occurred to me that maybe their DL was just horribly inept and lamed their entire D. However, after that though, I realized that while ISU's DL wasn't particularly good ... it was also comprised of Big 12 battle-tested personnel. Specifically, Parker is a multi-year starting DE and both Bailey Johnson and Patrick Neal owned quite a number of starts from last year. Lastly, Ruempolhamer saw plenty of action last year and was one of the emergent stars from their past 2 camps. In other words, lack of experience on the DL really wasn't as applicable as I originally anticipated for the Cyclones. Of course, what might have been applicable was the size-differential ... however, Iowa has had plenty of success in the past with undersized guys on the DL. Besides, it's not like Iowa has a hulking-big OL anyhow.

It's true that ISU's LBs were inexperienced ... but they certainly are promising talents. Of course, it really didn't help them at all that their LB depth sucks and then their top MIKE LB went down with a broken leg.

Also, with Benton out, they were even in a tougher spot with respect to being able to bring pressure. They simply couldn't afford to put CBs on an island against Iowa's WRs ... because Iowa would and could simply abuse them there. Fortunately for the Cyclones, Ferentz placed emphasis on the Hawks executing their base fundamentals once the game was out of hand. As a result of that "teaching exercise," the score didn't get run up too badly.

Iowa is very; very good.

ISU is below average.

HOWEVER, in the last 10-12 years, we have LOST more than once to ISU when we were pretty clearly the better team, imo.

So, the beatdown bodes pretty well for us, imo...

Iowa just came out and dominated ISU on both sides of the ball, that took away their will for the entire 1st half.
ISU rebounded in the 2nd half, but couldn't put anything together.
Iowa is very good, ISU just got overmatched and had their manhood taken away early. ISU just never was able to get it back.
ISU will win just 4 games this yr.
