The progression of Woodbury re posters here.

Or should I say "posers" here.

It has been fairly entertaining to see how some posters on this board posing as expert scouts had written Woodbury off as a big guy that was not high D1 caliber because of his star ratings or their own personal judgements of his game before he ever got out of his junior year of high school. Some were convinced he would be nothing because he didn't dominate every minute of every game in his junior year in Iowa, which is not Chicago or NYC.

Now that Roy, Self and others are coming to call and he seems to be making a name for himself on the summer circuit, I would be interested to hear from the naysayers now about what they think of him. Or maybe to put it better, I think they should come back and admit how prematurely judgmental they were about a player's game that wasn't even out of his junior year yet in high school.

It appears he is going to be pretty darn good and a top 50 type talent if not better. Maybe some had better just keep to being fans and let our coaches do the scouting.

This is a forum for opinions and like it or not, most people have one. If you want to sit back and ridicule people for weighing in on all thigs Iowa hoops, then I suggest you stick to other entertainment outlets. Woodbury has yet to score a point in college and yes, I have been skeptical about this "savior of Iowa basketball" label many have tagged him with. I will also admit that he has had an impressive AAU season and surprised me with his play. (props to him) In that same breath, if you are a 7 footer and can walk and chew gum, you are going to get a lot of attention (see NBA draft year after year).

With the long, long list of elite Iowa preps in the last 10 years (Harrison Barnes) excuse me for not jumping on the bandwagon from Woodbury's freshman year. I remember reading the same crapola about Big Cougs and how he would dominate in the paint etc. (Sorry Jack Nicholson...it has been a good month since my last BC reference).

So it's not ok for Thawki to give his opinion on those posters? :(

We're very lucky to have you onboard as our "Monday Morning Quarterback!" I have always hoped that Woodbury would turn out to be a good college player, as you can't teach someone to be 6'11". That said, I don't think he's the 2nd coming of Raef LaFrentz.

My guess the response will be similiar to the lack of noise after a football win vs. the board melt down after a loss...

or, perhaps woodbury looks better playing with good guards. the guards on his high school are terrible, and thats the setting most posters see him play in.

I have always preferred to go with the talent evaluators that ranked Woodbury as a top 125 player, minimum, for a couple of years over the eyeball witnesses who have seen him play High School games. For big men, especially, high school games are often a poor way to evaluate their games. Often, they are being guarded by shorter, more mature, more powerful kids and double/triple teamed, which does not allow for good analysis of their individual offensive talents. In the camps, against other tall kids one on one...that is when the evaluators are making their judgements, and that is a better way to go.
Clearly, in that environment,Adam has flourished. When you are 7ft1.25 in socks...your physique usually needs buffing...and I suspect that is now beginning to occur.

Here is a couple of pics I found of AW at the Nike Skills Academy last week. He was in extremely good company and if he is performing well against these guys...he IS a MUST get. (He is wearing the white top on your left) The two players to the right (his left) are pf/c Grant Jerret and pf/c Brandon Ashley both 5 star bigs that I am very familiar with. (Jerret is an Arizona commit and B. Ash hopefully will be soon.)

That's alright, HawkIhoops, you have been correct about Cougill from the first. He was not the type of player Fran is looking for. I surely hope Adam Woodbury plays for the Hawks though.

1) I've never seen anybody on this board or any other board label Adam the "savior of Iowa basketball," except for you in your post. Adam is a damn good basketball player, and continues to get better and better. I want that kid to be a Hawkeye.

2) In Cougill's defense, Lickliter did an absolutely terrible job of utilizing Cougill's skill set. A 6'9, 260 pound center shouldn't be hanging out on the perimeter looking to shoot threes, although Cougs did a pretty good job knocking them down.

Problem is it is hard to get to the paint when you never get last the free throw line before the ball is headed in the other direction - and in Lick's offense that is saying something.

Think the OP was fair. He isn't saying people were not appropriately judging Adam's game at the time, just saying their judgement was premature.
