The praise Fant and Hock are getting is making me ill

I thought Fant was a little underutilized but it looks like we had the best two TEs to be on the same team EVER. No team ever had 2 TEs drafted in the top 50, that is guaranteed to happen this year.

We massively underutilized both of them.

I am trying to remember how many yards of receiving and the number of touchdowns by these two guys over the past 2 years. Would you look it up for me? Thanks.

88 receptions, nearly 1300 yards and 13 TDs this last season alone.
From a position that most teams usually only have one player that is used as an offensive target, let alone weapon.

That is hardly underutilzed. This is the real world, not Maddon. We can't run plays for the same player(s) every down and expect them to work.

I disagree with you some in that they could have been used more, heck we know how many times Fant was not even on the field. And some coaches can get their receivers open a lot.

I actually k8nd of look at it the other way - you knew where the ball was going to be thrown most of the time and they still had the production they did. Must have done something right scheming there.

Why Fant disappeared for a while, well, this will fall into we will never really know. Mad at brother, mystery injury, lack of competing hard on plays not for him, take your pick.

kittle had 48 career receptions. i could go into my "kirk ferentz is afraid of offense" lecture, again, but at this point, i am not sure there is anyone left that doesn't already believe it.

Kittle also admits that he screwed around the first few years of college, and didn't get serious until Pat Angerer had a come to Jesus meeting with him.

He was also hurt for about half his Sr. year. Not a good example.

and beathard played injured almost his entire JR season. that's part of football.

kittle played in 10 games as a JR and 9 as a SR. so, he missed a handful of games. he had 20 and 22 catches, respectively. two receptions a game avg over 19 games is clear under utilization. Good Example.

- I knew we had something special when both had 100 receiving yards in the same game.

- I saw a mock draft just this morning that had both going in the Top 10!

- Fant's 4.5 40 at the combine really helped him.

- I fully expect a TE or two to blossom this year in their own right.

- I hope one of them is Drew Cook, keep the bloodlines going.

I'm happy for them.
I'm happy that we are so good at finding and developing this position as well as many others.

I have said it before, if you want to play on Sundays Iowa City is the place to be.
Imagine what our number of pro players would be if we even got 1/3 of the 5 star recruits as some schools along with our ability to turn 2-3 star kids into pros.
The numbers don't lie, we are probably the best in the nation at coaching and developing talent.

And just think Fant could have gone somewhere else and been a de, and probably be looking for a job here pretty soon after graduation.
But then again, if you just can't quite make it as a te here, we have a pretty good record of sending lineman to the pros too!!!

Ok.Promise.Win thursday.Warm Beer waay cool.Hawk players tough.

Having Cook step up for his senior year would be amazing. He'll be given the chance to. That'd sure be a ton of fun if he can

They are first round draft picks for a reason. They could still get open despite teams knowing where the ball was going. Our offense should have been much better with 2 first round picks at TE on the field at the same time. Fant should have been split out as he was much bigger, and faster than any receiver we had.

You're exactly right, and it just goes to show the Ferentz clan is clueless. They don't know how to properly utilize talent when it does fall in their lap.
