The players think it's all their fault

I suppose next you're going to inform us that the sky is blue, or that grass is green?

Players know more than any of us what went wrong. Execution. They don't sound like they're questioning the philosophy. They know that if they execute the plays called that they can be a good team. Back to basics this week. I expect them to come out swinging next week.

I never thought Id see the day where we had a meltdown over a 13-3 loss AT Penn State. Its a tough place to play, recent history not withstanding.

If this were a good Penn State team, I'd agree with you. But PSU is average at best this year.

As I said in another thread Penn's D could easy be a top ten D.

And their offense is AWFUL. I realize that the defense we have is what it is. But Penn State isn't that good of a team. Good defense, bad offense.

And as I asked someone else in another thread, what has happened this year to indicate Iowa is anything but average as well or is that much better than PSU?

It was an average team getting beat on the road by another average team. People need to face reality and stop thinking this is a great or even above average Iowa team this year.

I agree. Something to think about thou is they scored 11 on Bama. I am just saying I agree, their O is'nt all that good, but maybe Penn is not getting the credit they deserve by some fans. If thier D is a legit top 10, there is nothing saying, on a GOOD or lucky day they couldnt be a top 5.
We will have to see how we play and how they play the rest of the year, but like I said they COULD be better than some of the people on this board are giving credit for.

I realize we aren't that good, either. But the fact that PSU is average at best, combined with HOW we lost, is what has this place in meltdown mode.

Well we have a good offense and a bad defense....... it was also away so the away team is spotted 3 points, always has been for betting purposes........ they won by ten so in reality we lost by "7" taking into account the 3 points for home field...... again it was home field..... How do you think PSU felt losing to Iowa in 08?

This fan base has to much time on their hands

I think you're wrong. People keep repeating this in the echo chamber, and people keep believing it. It's wrong.

Penn St. has been improving on offense, just like Iowa will, and I think they can make some noise in whatever their division is called. Once McGloin established himself he was very effective. Moye is a very good receiver (more yards than McNutt), and Redd is a pretty damn good running back (as good as or better than Coker right now).

Using the Iowa formula, that PSU team can lean on their great defense and produce enough points to win a bunch of games in the Big 10. Illinois and Nebraska both go to HV this year, and I don't think either leaves with a win.

If by average you mean they will look great some weeks and terrible the next (probably coinciding with whether they're at home or on the road), I guess I agree with you. I see them going either 5-3 or 6-2, though, depending on what sort of situation Ohio State is in by the end of the year. They're pretty comparable to every Big Ten team not named Wisconsin and not in the bottom three (Indiana, Minnesota, Purdue). I don't know how you draw any meaningful distinctions among the other 8 teams. Put them on neutral fields against each other and it's a pick 'em.

And they needed all kinds of breaks to score 13 ******* points. Seriously without two lucky bounces we go into half leading 3-0.

PSU is a top 10 defensive football team. Their offense had 5 tipped passes that were caught...one of them richotched off the umpires shoe. Luck was in their corner this game...pure and simple. I look for the Hawks to win the next 4 games and be right back in the hunt for the title. Nebraska would have 2 losses right now if the QB for OSU hadn't got hurt. I for one look for the hawks to put a beat down on Northwestern this Saturday and I will be there to witness it.

It doesn't matter, its Penn State. They have good players, a good staff, and a great home crowd.

I don't get how we have a dozen topics about how bad we are but a dozen more about how mad we are for losing to a "bad" Penn State team.

You know what part of the PSU offense is AWFUL? Rob Bolden, and PSU was smart enough to barely play him against Iowa. He had 7 attempts this week, compared to a previous season low of 12.

The rest of the offense is OK. Getting Bolden off the field is the best thing they can do to improve their offense, and they more or less did that Saturday.

A beatdown of NW? Have you been living under a rock since 2005?

As we found out last Saturday, the past has nothing to do with the present now does it?

I don't know if Iowa will put a beatdown on NW but with a couple of turnovers who knows. I do think Iowa wins though. I think in every game Iowa has lost to NW since 2005 they have blown a double digit lead in all of them.

This, if PSU goes with McGloin as QB they will be a pretty decent team and one that I think can beat Nebraska and Illinois at Happy Valley.
