The perfect Iowa trick play

Speaking of faking, I would love to see a pump fake. When was the last time we saw an Iowa QB execute a pump fake?

Fairly certain that by doing the motion of taking a knee, not even touching your knee to the turf, you are giving yourself up and the play is dead.

Once Tate tried to draw the defense offsides on a fourth and short. When it wasn't working, he just started walking to the sideline but the rest of the offense stayed there. I started thinking, once he gets out in space, direct snap to the running back, and Rudock can run down field to become a receiver.. Easy touchdown..

I had actually thought about this recently too. B/c a kneeling motion is considered down even if you don't kneel I came up with an alternative. Do your normal play "if it goes you go for it" when it fails, take a kneel in the same formation. Next play take a shot downfield.

Hayden did this at Purdue or Indiana to end a half or a tie game that the hawkeyes untied and won.

Pretty sure Long was at qb with about a minute to go. The hawks ran a conservative dive play into the line, then took there time milling around and huddling, then took more time before next snap. But the play was about a 40-50 yard pass completion and set up a FG or a winning FG kick.

It was great. Hayden almost pulled something like it off at MSU one year but Skillet's (spelling) long 50+ yard FG was ruled just wide , even though later it seemed most people thought it hooked in and the ref sort of gave up on it and assumed it missed.

This is a great idea.

Plus no one tries the incomplete pass to a receiver behind the line of scrimmage which is really a lateral bounced off the ground. Wisky did it many years ago for a TD.

I think you would get a pretty good bounce off these new artificial turf type fields.

I would lke that play too. Get the qb casually walking to the sideline as if there were to be a timeout. Then direct snap to the rb and pitch. I could just imagine the defense just standing there in shock. Also what was that play in MASH?

I like the trot off field receiver that stays on the edge of the field and then goes deep before anyone notices. Where's that play derp Davis? Huh? Answer my question.

Didn't the Bears try the sideline receiver trick play a few years ago? Maybe they could get with the Bears x coach and get that play going.

That wasn't the fumblerooski. The ball was never placed on the ground nor was it picked up by a lineman.

Yep, you are correct. The headline is wrong and the announcers used the wrong term. This variation has been given the name bumerooski (after Bum Phillips). Here's the Chargers using it a few years ago.

These are all correct. The rule is that you can no longer intentionally place the ball on the ground.

I watched the last play of the half. Michigan State was already to the tunnel with 10 seconds left. Rushing on the second team offense, quick snap it, and run it in unopposed, why not it might just have worked.
