The only thing pathetic about Iowa

Fans get upset when you have a coach who hasn't won an NCAA game in his five plus years here

Trust me, I'm as ticked off about last night's game as anyone (and all the blown games over the past few years) but let's not start making things up that simply aren't true. Come on. You know better than that.

I am not blowing sunshine pumpkin - the loss sucked a hard one and we ****** it down our legs. It's acceptable, because it happened and there's nothing any of us can do but accept it. It happens in every game, one team loses and another wins. Izzo and Coach K lose games every year in the last minute of games. I'm all about venting and I expect it after the way that game unfolded in the last minute... But it's pathetic that we have "Fire Fran" threads. It's pathetic that posters are running around dropping knowledge like "Fran's never had a winning conference record" and "Fran's never won an NCAA game at Iowa." It's pathetic that narratives like "this team possesses 0 toughness" and that the team "continues to fall short of expectations" after losing by 1 point on the road to the # 4 team in the country. That's pathetic and bush league and I have no issue calling people on it.
I agree that some of the stuff on here is way over the top, but a handful of posters making irrational comments doesn't make the entire fan base, or even the majority of the posters on this board stupid.

That's because no one can blow them out. So when they DO lose, it's going to be close. But how many times do K's and Izzo's teams have an 8 point lead and the ball, with a minute something left, and totally hand over the game? I'll wager it's extremely rare, at most.

Well Cupcake-I can call you cupcake after you called me pumpkin right.

I agree with you that its extreme and there's a ton of absolutely over the top negativity, but with the title of your thread your calling out the entire fanbase and I think that's what bothers myself as well as others. It gives off a your better than us mantra and we're all a bit short fused after last night.

Let it pass. It always does.

You missed my point. You are calling Iowa fans stupid, but people are going to react negatively when you have a huge meltdown against your in state rival who is ranked in the top 5. Especially when it seems to be a trend under this coaching staff. All fan bases will do this, and some of it is over the top but some of it isn't. Do you expect everyone after watching that garbage to log on and say, "hey great try guy, we almost got that one". No we blew it. You can't argue the fact that we threw the game away. People are going to be mad about it. If you think they shouldn't be, then maybe it is you who is stupid. I generally respect you as a poster, but I think you are way off on this one.

Sorry if I missed your point... we blew this game and there is no argument there. People are mad and so am I and I agree with a lot of people on a lot of things on here, unfortunately it's being drowned by a lot of dumb.

thank you for summing it up nicely. I agree 100%

I am better? :) OK... clearly I'm not and I don't haz grammar... I am being over the top with the general statement about Iowa fans being over the top, it just really grinds my gears sometimes to come here and read some of this stuff. Iowa is good at basketball again and I love the team, I hate seeing them lose in any fashion but I don't really understand the need to dump on EVERYTHING immediately after a tough loss.

I don't disagree with that - but the lack of perspective on this board is embarrassing

If by lack of perspective, you mean the "fire Fran" types, I agree.
If you have a problem with the criticism of SR play down the stretch or the embarrassingly bad coaching....you're on your own.

This is an annual event. Football winds down and posters (that know nothing about basketball) migrate over to this forum and spew nonsense.

Well at least the basketball forum is active again. Someone commented about how dead it was a couple of weeks ago. There's plenty of action today...mostly nonsense but lots of activity.

People are going to react when their team blows an enormous opportunity like the Hawks did last night. I didn't log in and post for that reason. I was very upset, and this seems to be a pattern with this group of players and coaching staff. If you don't want to see people blow up after we **** away a 20 point lead and fumble our way out of a win in the closing minute, then I would suggest not logging on.

I'll never understand why a bunch of alleged adults (all fan bases) are so emotionally invested in the outcome of a game played by a bunch of kids. It all seems kinda schizophrenic and immature to me.

I think some fans tend to grade a basketball season as they would a football season. In football, 1 loss can adversely affect your season because of the quantity of games that are played. And with football, a collapse and loss of a big lead and, eventually, the game, can be indicative of that teams talent level.

In basketball, you can have several ups and downs during the same season, and basketball is such a momentum game. We still have almost 25 games left, this season. And keep in mind that with Marquette winning at Wisconsin, today, we now have kicked the sh I t out of 2 teams that have won at Wisconsin, this season. We beat Wichita St who beat #25 Utah today. Teams tend to be more up and down, in basketball, during the non conference season. We need a bench. We get that, we'll be tough. Losing Dale Jones will hurt us. We're trying to figure out how to overcome that injury.

With all of the negative **** going on in this country and the world I enjoy having sports as an escape. I have two degrees from Iowa as well so yes I feel very invested in the teams. I like being able to watch Iowa games and not think about terrorists and racism and ****** people for a few hours. I don't see any problem with being emotionally invested in your favorite teams. What's the point of sports if you don't care about the outcome of anything?
