The Most Difficult Week in Sports - T minus 7 days to:

LG - Walsh - 300
C - Simmons - 310
RG - Blythe - 300
RT - Donnal - 310

These guys are just not going to end up with playing weights that heavy, other than maybe Blythe. If you haven't noticed, this staff does not like OL that are too heavy. Keep dreaming.

Donnal is 302 now. (8 pounds in two years)

Simmons is 295 now (15 pounds in two years)

Blythe has to be 285 right now. Either j. Ferentz is 270 or Blythe is 285. There is no way j Ferentz weighs more than Blythe. Blythe is only a RS Freshman...he adds 20-25 pounds easy.

I will tell you, I don't think those weights are stretch at all...maybe Simmons is 305, but 5 pounds a year for an OL is nothing. Blythe and Walsh have the frame for it. The staff doesn't want guys that can't play at that weight, you are right...but these guys will ease into those numbers.

Hawkeye Football. In trying to occupy my mind during this last week, I was contemplating the near future of the team with all the young players that will get significant time this year.

In 2014, our Starting lineup could be the most experienced team ever fielded by KF.

SE - Hillyer (will play this year)
LT - Scherff (if he's still here)
LG - Walsh
Center - Simmons
RG - Blythe
RT - Donnal
TE - Hamilton
WR - Fleming
QB - Ruduch
FB - Weisman
RB - Garmon/Hill/ or Canzeri

Defense
LE - Spears
LT - J. Johnson
RT - C. Davis
RE - Ekatite
LB - Alston
LB - Perry
LB - Meier
CB - Buford
CB - Lomax
SS - Law
FS - Lile

All these guys will be juniors or seniors with significant starts and experience. The LB's will be the only position that may be a little green since the three guys starting this year will be starting most likely in 2013...we will be breaking in a new LB crew, but they will be playing behind a monster DL.

As my signature states...I think this team contends not only for a Big Ten Title, but a NC as well. My issue would be that Scherff is likely gone after next year...but we have more depth coming in this class as well as I believe our recruiting is on a big upswing with Brian Ferentz and Lavar Woods.

I know people will say, can't we just play 2012 please...but I wanted to point out...We will need some great sunglasses in the next few years...because the future is nuclear in my opinion. Whatever happens this year, and I think it can be a good year, is only a step to ascend to the top of college football.

It's good to be a Hawkeye right now.

You're assuming CJ leaves? And KMM?

Young man will need to have a helluva camp to be out out Jake R.! ;)

Sorry...Rudock. Here's a guy that won a NC in high school I believe...although mythical. He'll have time to spend another year learning getting stronger and getting 2nd team reps. He will most like likely get some playing time early too...hopefully. By his junior year, it will be his fourth year. He will be ready to lead the team. And if someone beats him out...they are are going to have to be very, very good...and that's not a bad thing.

In my mind, I just don't remember a time when we had this much young talent on a team that's ready to compete already (I'm not saying they will win every game mind you)...and with what appears to be a better recruiting team in place.

In my mind, the future is brighter than what it's ever been.

Neither to do I. I think the OL could be one of the best next year. The potential is exciting!
