I'm sure this isn't how ESPN drew it up when they were predicting results. For LSU and the Mississippi schools to all get beat like that is pretty bad. LSU was in the game anyway but they sure gave up a ton of points and yards. I thought the speed and defenses in the SEC were just too good for everyone else to even compete with. (sarcasm)

Ole Miss looked embarrassingly bad to say the least. I'm glad I'm not a TCU fan cause they sure have a right to be upset about not making the final 4 they looked like world beaters and made it look easy. How much was Ole Miss stinking it up and TCU being that good is hard to tell but TCU is damn good regardless.

Miss ST was just out coached as much as anything. You could see the in game adjustments Paul Johnson was making in his play calling and he just seemed to push all the right buttons. And unlike Ferentz when he finds a weakness to a teams D be it how they line up or whatever he just attacks it till you stop it. Ferentz will run a play that works once and then you won't see it again for 5 weeks... But I digress. Miss ST has talent but they were out coached up and down the field to the tune of 49 pts and over 500 yards and watching it I got the feeling it coulda been worse... Ouch.

Those 3 SEC teams were pretty highly ranked early this year and this bowl season is setting up for disaster if it keeps playing out.

Can Alvarez somehow get Wisky to beat Auburn? Seems like a tall task with how they looked last game but you never know.

Do the Gophers have a punchers chance against Mizzu?

Can Iowa throw down with TN?

What if Bama gets beat by OSUs 3rd string qb?

I don't see the perfect storm brewing the rest of the way by any means but I bet the SEC brain trust at ESPN isn't strutting around all giddy this morning quite like they were most of the season..

Not sure if that's supposed to be meant as a caution to the OP, but I think that applies to ESPN and the SEC, too. We have to listen about how much the Big Ten sucks all the time, but then you go out and lay three eggs to open the bowl season? Expect some criticism and take it.
 
My best bet out of all these games is taking Minnesota. Jerry does a great job of getting his team pumped for games like this, a statement game for their program and in a way for the big ten.
 
I just had a feeling all year that the Mississippi teams sucked. That's the joy of of being in the SEC I guess. Start 5-0 and you're in the top 10. Lose a couple games and don't drop because your opponent was highly over ranked.
 
The best thing that could happen for college football is the SEC finishing the bowl games at or below .500 and Alabama NOT winning the National Championship. That would keep the talking heads on ESPN a little more honest next year with their SEC hype.
 
I guess he was meaning that when the big 10 has a winning bowl record more than one time in the last 15 years we can open our mouths.

Actually it would probably make them up their hype to help balance out reality.
 
Unfortunately, everyone nationally will judge simply by the OSU/Alabama game. Don't care if OSU wins I just hope they play well.

I don't need to be the best, or even good, to know someone else is overrated. If they can't handle a little flak when they flop in their big bowls, then they need to develop a thicker skin. Hell, even the guys on ESPN were saying that last night. You can have all the praise, you deserve it. But you better also be willing to take the criticism when you don't perform to expectations.

It all comes own to the tOSU Bama game. It looks like the Big Ten will be .500 in this bowl season. Need that playoff win to start to change opinions.
 
It feels dirty but I'm rooting hard for Ohio State tonight. Having no SEC team in the playoff championship with Alabama and both "mighty" Mississippi schools losing their marquee games would be awesome.

The big ten was the "laughing stock" of college football earlier in the year and suddenly Sparty beats Baylor and Wisconsin beats Auburn. An Ohio State win would put a nice stamp on the face of the naysayers.

Oh yeah and of course Iowa winning wouldn't hurt either :rolleyes:
 
Go Buckeyes. Don't think I've ever paced in my house for both Sparty and Wisky ever. Kinda proud to be part of the B1G for a change!

I think it was after MissSt got beat last night the espn talking heads were hem-hawing it, when Joey Galloway said if the sec was gonna get the praises when they won, then they deserve the criticism when they lose. I don't think the other 3 on the panel really had much of a response to that statement. (Full disclosure-typically I don't agree with JG; as I think he is rather pompous)

Personally, I loved every minute of it (and the Wiscy win today!!). All 3 (Ol' Miss, MissSt, and Auburn) were at one time being touted as playoff/championship and teams.
