The Jake Coincidences

Jake R and Jake C both faced NIU in their first start at Iowa. Both of them threw for exactly 256 yards in that first start.

Lets hope that's where it ends.

JC won, JR lost. If that fact separates their career arcs at Iowa, I'm good with that.

The superstitious side of me now feels much better about Iowa and Rudock's futures.

Same school, NI, but very different teams. Rudock is not as athletic but showed more pocket presence than we ever saw from JC.

I think a huge part of Iowa's lack of passing success later in the season is that Jake C's top 3 passing targets going into August--Andy Brodell, Dominique Douglas, and Tony Moeaki--were all out for the year or off the team by the end of September. I think starting over with a new #1 receiving group filled with a bunch of guys with basically zero meaningful experience mid-way through the process seriously stunted Iowa's 2007 season.

Fast forward to 2013, and we've already had more success in this regard. Unless the receiving group has another apocalypse, I don't think this year will look like 2007.

I think also a huge part of the lack of success, the fact that Jake C sucked at QB.
