Is it just me or lately gatens seems to just not care or show "heart"? He is a good player, and we desperately need him, but it just doesnt seem like he has much energy to him. Guys that i have seen show serious effort is are freshman class, all three of them go out to compete and prove them selves.

By lately do you mean the entire season? Matt hasnt played with any passion all year long. I dont know if he is frustrated/upset/etc or what exactly is going on but it isnt good

Iowa should be fired up. They have been completely destroyed the last 2 games.
My only issues and it's a simple one. Iowa just doesn't matchup with Michigan.
Lick and Co. Better have learned some lessons from the last 2 beatdowns. I want to see those adjustments a coach is suppose to make when things aren't working. Throwing in the towel is just not acceptable to me.The bottomline is that is why he is paid the Big Bucks at his profession.

I have thought the same about Matt...really lacks that passion I saw from him last year. Losing does that too you at any level. Michigan is a bad match up for Iowa...if we can shoot 40% from the 3 pt. line we have a chance. If Michigan guards and holds us down we will really struggle.
I think his effort is the same as last year, however I think he wears his emotion's on his sleeve a lot more often this year compared to last year.
He has definitely had instances where he has taken horrible 3 point shots. I think he is a competative guy and last season and this season are really starting to wear on him.

We really don't match up with Michigan very well, Sims and Harris both kill us. I think they will give us a spanking.

I just hate the matchups get get from them.
I HOPE, HOPE, HOPE we try something else on defense. Maybe a 2-3 zone or something. Make UM shoot over the zone, because Sims will kill Iowa again.

The ironic part about IF we play zone tonight is that it took a caller to call in to Dolphs show to really get the point across. I'm guessing we see some zone tonight but we get torched when we run it simply because the season is almost over and we haven't played it all year. Probably a lot of standing around guessing who you are going to box out / guard type of thing.
Maybe next week someone should call in and ask why we aren't getting top 50 recruits and voila a top 50 may just show up.

Well that is interesting comment in bold. You get paid millions of dollars to coach at the highest level and don't know how to teach the a 2-3 Zone? I would be shock if they look like you say they will, just shocked.

I love it when people try to quantify effort...I think he should scream when he gets rebound with no one from the other team within 5 feet from him. Or dive for a ball that he could have just picked up. Or sprint down the floor when the other team is on a fast break and waste all his energy just so he can be the one that throws the ball in. THAT is passion!
