The first QB I remember playing for Iowa was

As i recall Currier had to eat at Burgeb i am truly sorry for that. Good preparation for prison food was the prevailing thought.
Currier had their own cafeteria Monday through Friday. We only ate at Burge on weekends. I worked in both during my college days, spent lots of time with Gary "Smiley" Bloore.

I remember both Pete Gales and Gordy Bohannon. Was shocked when his sons committed to Wisconsin. JBo saved the Hawkeye legacy. Surprised none of them ever took the football route to college.
One story I've heard, and it's perfectly plausible, is that Papa Gordy didn't get along too well with Steve Alford. That would explain why we didn't have a chance at the older Bohannons.

I do remember Smiley! Damn, where did the last 40 years go? Stanley Hall ate at Burge too. I remember this sweet gal......oh well, different time, different days, and back then I still had a prostate..........

For me it was mid 60s when I listened to games on WMT. I remember seeing reports on tv in the early 60s about Iowa but didn't listen to games when I was that young.

We started going to games in the dark ages, so it was either Tom McLaughlin or Butch Caldwell. I remember early in the '76 season people in the stands were talking about Bob Commings Jr. as the savior... I think this is why I have a little bit more patience when things don't go so well.

My all time favorite Hawk would probably be Shonn Greene.

In the Kirk era, Greene offense, Matt Roth defense.

In the Hayden era Tim Dwight offense, Andre Tippett defense.
Man tough to just pick a couple.

O I just loved the explosiveness of Dwight and Banks both. Just game breakers. That one yr of Greene was awesome.
D I too loved Roth he just had a screw loose and was awesome. But Bob Sanders would have to be my go to for that side. He was like the defenses version of a Timmy D almost

When that 2008 team got rolling and we had Greene in our backfield I felt like we had a legit chance to beat any team in the country on a given day.

I have seldom felt like that with any other Iowa player.

Could you imagine Iowa in 2009 with Greene returning? With Wegher and A-Rob backing him up? And that defense?

Gale and Gordy. My first game Iowa/Nebby, Iowa like a gazillion point underdog. I was 16 and got my mom's ticket. Instant Iowa fan for life. Then Final Four with Lester, talk about starting with dessert. Been chasing that high all my life. Big shout out to Tippet, still my favorite Defensive player to ever play at Iowa. Then the Chuck Long era. Damm I was spoiled.

No doubt. Greene was a man amongst boys and that Oline mauled folks.

Wegher is such a what could have been story too. Folks now are all talking about how great Goodson is and rightfully so I may add. But If Wegher wasn't sharing touches with Robinson he'd have had a monster freshman year and if only he'd have kept his shit together and stayed... That dude could have torn up the league too

Kyle McCann is the first one I can sort of remember watching. Banks is the first one that I clearly remember.

Larry Lawrence. Did Ed Podalak play a little QB?
Podolak was QB his junior year. He moved to RB as a senior, with Lawrence as the QB. He was pretty good as I recall. I was at the OSU game that year which is STILL one of my all time favorite Hawk games - even though they lost.
In '68, OSU was #2 at gametime. They held a 12-0 halftime lead which was a good showing by the Hawks. The lead stretched to 26-6 at the end of 3Q. The Hawks mounted a furious comeback with 21 4Q points and came up just short. OSU went undefeated and was national champion.
Those Nagel Hawk teams were fun to watch. That team actually went 4-3 in the B10. 5-5 overall - not bad considering our non-conf opponents were Oregon State (#8), TCU and Notre Dame (#5).
