The final word on 2014 Hawks

What do you have - its festivus - let's flush this crap and move on.

  1. Too many WR rotate and so the defense could pretty accurately predict what would happen when for example Powell came in - screen or deep. Nobody had a chance to get lathered up.
  2. The punt game hurt Iowa this year because Punting is a big part of Iowa's system.
  3. No commitment to the run early in the year - abandoned the run
  4. Too many guys rotated in at RB
  5. No really good running back - a guy who can do a lot and take it to the house
  6. Early in season not looking to go deep - would not stretch the field.
  7. Jet sweep was never integrated into the offense and when #10 comes it you can guess who's going to get the ball or at least know the ghost action will be seen.
  8. Inconsistent play from QB 1) slow release 2) weak arm 3) throws late
  9. Predicable audible - run right
  10. Lack of urgency - plod around until they get behind and then they attack.

Number 1 should have been poor coaching at the top.

Heyy,
the coaches are trying, lets give em another couple of years to get their system in place til we flip out

Plus doyle

Defense:
1) on 1st and 2nd down you will for sure see our base 4-3, no matter the down and distance.
2) lb's were unable to shed blocks which led for secondary having to assist on almost every tackle.
3) Safeties continually bit on play-action as they were relied on way too much to stop the run.
4) it annoys me that when we had a team at 1st and 15 or 2nd and 12 that we didn't bring the heat, ever and really put the opponent in a bad spot on 3rd down.
5) the ignorance to never use a zone blitz, as pass rush only came from the down 4 or the "raider"
6) the "raider" package not being used at all vs Iowa State and Maryland. Had many the situation where we could have changed things up in those games and did not.
7) no play-maker returning punts and the guy who did return punts didn't even catch them all which allowed the ball to bounce in the opponents favor

I agree with a lot or most of these but #5 worked great at Maryland as OTT dropped in zone blitz and got the INT.

I think we need to blitz or pressure gaps on first down more often and try to get more 2nd and longs

Our entire punting/receiving game is a disaster.

Well the punt return given up to Nebby for a TD was a classic kick it too low and too far and then the whole hawk tackle unit overran the returner who hardly had to make a move to score.

A lot of the problems are mental as was this punt return.
