The Fever and The Pacers: Really Fun to Watch

Its her combination of passing and outside shooting that makes her so lethal. Who leads the country in scoring and assists? That's nuts for someone to lead both of those categories on the same team.

She has no comparison. People want to say Steph and that's the closest, but he doesn't pass as well as CC. Her court awareness and vision is probably only topped by her boyfriend. If they have kids s/he will come out of the womb throwing no-look, behind the back passes.
Andre Woolridge lead the BIG in both his senior yr but not the country if I remember right and that was pretty crazy. Yet he was screwed out of POY to Bobby Jackson who I think shoulda been ruled ineligible or some shit. My memory is a little fuzzy on that now as long ago as it was.

But yeah CC being as ball dominant of a PG as she is just conducts everything. Even when she is off the ball and coming off screens defenses focus so much on her it opens up others like KM for dribble drives and cutting off the ball too. If KM could be trusted to handle the ball and make decisions a little better they'd be wildly more dangerous.

I always thought kind of a combo of Steph Curry and Magic Johnson.
That's a good way to characterize her. As lethal as she is from the outside, I wish she would work on getting more arc on her shot like Curry. It's hard to imagine her getting better, but I've noticed when she struggles from the outside, it's usually when her shot flattens out more than normal.

In interviews, Magic's teammates used to talk about having to learn real quick that the ball could be coming from any angle. James Worthy once said that he had to take a few off the noggin before he adapted.

A few years ago, I likened Caitlin to Pistol Pete Marovich. Many fans are barely aware of him due to his tragically shortened career, but his combination of shooting and passing, all with a certain flair, was unreal. No one else ever reminded me of him until Clark came along.

Has it been noted that a fight, maybe more than one, broke out between the Fever and Sun last night? One was a two-handed push by a Sun of CC that knocker her to the floor. Refs conferred and gave out a T which many say should have been an immediate ejection.

Fever coach White complained after the game that the officiating needs to catch up with the current W; the players are bigger, faster, stronger than ever and the refs need to be doing a better job.

IMO, this is another example of the W being behind the 8 ball on being ready for what CC has brought to the league.

I tell you what, the players know what she's brought and many don't like it.

I did like Sophie Cunnigham get into a fight, supporting CC in my mind.

Oh, I watched the whole game and the second half was grab the popcorn time. CC is very sneaky in playing up bad contact, starting shit, but getting the hell out of there before something bad happens. No reason to give anyone a chance to swing at her, and her teammates have her back. When that girl from OSU was driving to the hoop at the end I yelled at my wife to watch this because it was obvious something was about to go down, and it did. Very entertaining game. Expect some fines.

The announcer nailed it during the broadcast. The refs did not toss out the girl for knocking CC to the ground on purpose and in a dead ball spot. That is classic fighting and should have been an easy Flagrant 2. The refs were terrible and lost control of the game. The league has got to step in and demand that these refs have a tighter whistle on physical fouls and certainly extra curricular activities. They can't say its just for CC, of course, but that is who it is for. You can't just let the other team send out goons to beat the hell out of CC before and after the whistle. Punches are going to be thrown soon by Fever players if the league doesn't get ahead of this shit and protect its star player.

Kind of a Brawl against the Connecticut Sun last night

Former Ohio State guard Shelton literally hates Caitlin and was riding her all
night, deliberately poked her in the eye and then pushed her afterwards while
she was dabbing at her eye

Sophie Cunningham, my girl, was backing Caitlin up all night and then

DID THIS late in the game

I Say GAWD DAMN

Yeah that game wasn't boring that's for sure. Well minus the two 15 min breaks they had for all the reviews they did anyway. They think being physical and getting in Clarks head is a strategy to beat her but it isn't... It just fuels her even more is all. She hit that dagger 3 right in Jacys face in the 4th to put it away and she let her and the CT bench know it. Was pretty awesome from where I was sitting.

I gotta think the Sophie acquisition was in large part for games like last night. I didn't know much about her before the season but then read a little bit about her in recent weeks. She is a Columbia, MO native, and played at UM. And got in her fair share of scraps in college, including at hostile places like SC.

I get a Kate Martin vibe from her. Not really dirty (although maybe edges out towards that line a bit more than Kate)...but more so a loyal, team leader with a strong sense of right and wrong. And no fear in standing up for justice. I would guess she also isn't afraid to call out Caitlin in practice if needed.

The chemistry with this team is gonna be off the charts. I get a feeling Catilin is really going to show her swagger as her teammates keep throwing down for her.

God this is fun.

On Cowherd's show today he said that Sophie was a black belt at age 6.

She's tough as nails.

Sophie was really popular in Phoenix and Mercruy fans wee sorry to see her get traded. She was doing broadcasts for the Suns as well, pre-game, post game, same actual game work, starting to get into commercials. She wasn't doing all the sexy stuff she's doing now. Fever fans should love her.

I have a love hate relationship with Cowherd, but I will admit he is very good at his job and not all of his takes suck. He is a less obnoxious version of Jim Rome.

I caught a bit of his show during my lunch break and that man loves CC. He jokingly said that he spent half his show talking about CC and the WNBA, and he has a hard time wrapping his head around that.

She just moves the meter. Everywhere.

From The Washington Post concerning last night's Fever-Suns game

“Players are faster, they’re better, they’re bigger, they’re stronger,” White said. “Things are happening quickly. Everybody’s getting better, except the officials.” Fever Coach Stephanie White

If the officiating crew had been paying attention, they would have seen this game was boiling from the beginning. Clark had been fending off Sun defenders, either Sheldon or Saniya Rivers, who at times checked her over the length of the court. Clark — who finishes her pregame routine by absorbing and playing through contact from a male Fever staffer — would swat their arms away and move to her spots effortlessly. She has no problem giving the physicality right back, which she did before the midway point of the third quarter, throwing a two-handed shove into Sheldon. The refs missed that one.

Worth every penny I paid for the WNBA App

It was an interesting game, for sure.

I have mixed feelings about how it played out. Either way, though, the refs were awful.

Sheldon has had a rivalry with Clark for years, and it's obvious that each wants to go at the other. I actually think that those kind of heated rivalries are good for the game. I harken back to Chamberlain-Russell, Magic-Bird, Jordan-The entire Pistons team, etc. Behind the scenes, my guess is that the WNBA brass absolutely love this. It's the next tier of the "CC effect."

Mabry should have been tossed, and I think just about everyone except those refs and her teammates would agree.

The play with Cunningham needs to be examined better. Offensive players are taught to seek out contact in that situation, but Sheldon's initiation of the contact was over-the-top. That shoulder drop and lateral move into Cunningham's body definitely was with bad intentions. It wasn't the usual "drawing a whistle" move. It made Cunningham's foul look way worse than it was.

I don't have an issue with Rivers. She is long and a hell of an athlete. Reminds me a bit of a female version of Michael Cooper, and will be giving offensive players fits for years.

It's too bad Sheldon isn't a better player and that could be a better rivalry. Folks like to try bashing Clarks defense but she was who guarded Sheldon and she only had 2 pts... Sheldon just isn't a good player and resorting to being physical and trying to bait Clark into getting Ts seems to be a strategy her and I'm sure others are going to be doing. Clark is mindful of it though she's not gonna get into fights and get herself tossed from games she's too smart for it.

Mabry certainly shoulda been tossed. What she did happened so long past the whistle. If you can do that what can't you do? Good grief. Clark had already been hit in face by Jacy with the whistle been blown turned and those two bump each other then 3 steps later is when Mabry comes flying in. The tv anouncers did a good job of breaking it down I thought.

On Jacys last play I saw same thing you did. She put her shoulder down trying to get a first down. I'm not so sure had Sophie just kept back peddling and not let her hit her that Jacy woulda fell to the floor on her own. She was pretty off balance bracing for the contact that she was drawing.

Yeah Rivers was just out there competing she wasn't doing anything untoward. I agree she reminds me of Rickea Jackson in LA. Both of them are gonna be good players for a long time

This has not been discussed enough. Sheldon started that whole thing with that shoulder drop. If Cunningham went down it would have been a clear offensive foul. That aint what Sophie wanted though. :)

If Sheldon stayed down, it should have been a charging foul on her, and a flagrant 2 on Cunningham for the pull down. But, once she got up and her and her teammate came at Cunningham with hands at Cunninghams head, that is escalation and fighting. Both should have been tossed as well.

Hell, these ladies make such low salaries, I bet the fines are like $85 anyway.

That was 100% better than the dancin' bruhahas you see in the NBA these days, when nothing really happens. They all make like $80 million a year and are buddies. It's sort of why I like Draymond. He is over the top and somewhat dirty....but man, he wants to win so bad. It's personal to him.

There was no dancin' in that dust up to end the Fever game. Sheldon popped up and came right at her. And Cunningham was ready. Hands on back of her neck. Forced down. Threat neutralized. No theatrics or moves for the camera.

Someday I would love to hear the details from the Fever brass, but I'm guessing she was handpicked to be Caitlin's protector this year. They needed someone good enough to be on the court, and would be a good teammate and improve the culture....but mostly they needed a Caitlin protector. Reminds me of when the Bulls drafted Oakley soon after getting Jordan.
