I feel sorry for Matt Gatens who just moved his wife and kids down to Auburn to be a GA....
I found a reference to it by another poster I think here or maybe over at HR where I read but don't post. I would like to find it myself. I think the secondary stuff from the fallout of this will prove interesting whether we get a finger pointed at us or not. For example the ties to Steve Fisher at Michigan I find a surprise as I've always found him one of the more likable coaches in the conference and he seems like a guy who does things the right way. I just think we need to refrain from beating ourselves on the chest about what a clean program we run because this mess will yield a good number of surprises IMO.
Hmm well that'd include our dear friend Alford so that'd sure make things interesting. Are they an Adidas school? I could be wrong about that
No doubt.... Sure hope he was renting not buying.I feel sorry for Matt Gatens who just moved his wife and kids down to Auburn to be a GA....
I think you missed the point.
I have connection w Beilein's family. His uncle' and mentor single handedly took down OU and SMU. The mentor earned a Silver Star when he led his scout unit in taking out 3 tanks at Bastogne when surrounded in the surroundment SE of Bastogne. Beilein was very close to his uncle and was trained in coaching by him. The uncle was a hall of fame coach. The uncle left college as a player to join the service where he played and coached his regiment to the 101st Airborne Championship. Severely wounded at Bastogne he continued playing on his college team after recovering but had permenant injuries on his arm. His family was the real Saving Private Ryan family.Senior moment on the Steve Fisher comment thinking about John Beilein. Had a severe concussion three years ago from a nasty fall down a flight of steps and that along with the natural aging process at 60 makes for some challenging moments mentally. If you just focus on that little flub in my previous post you indeed did miss my point. College basketball has a culture problem and a shoe company problem that impacts even the well meaning coaches in the sport of which we have many.
According to this article (which is a fascinating read if you have 15 minutes on your hand), UCLA just switched within the last year or two from an Adidas school to an Under Armour school.
Reading the details of the investigation and the dirt led me to 2 conclusions:
- these assistant coaches/financial advisors make lousy crooks; certainly no Avon Barskdale or The Greek
- this dirt must run through ALL OF big-time basketball and football; I would like to think Iowa is clean, but after reading the article, I almost believe everyone has to be dirty to even compete
