Couple of thoughts.... For me that's a lot.
1. 90 percent of Federal indictments end with plea bargaining. 90 percent of those that don't plea bargain are convicted. You are indicted....you are screwed. Lot's of singing canaries.
2. This will likely end with more university oversight at the top admin level. The days of untouchable coaches and non-transparent contracts are probably over.
I really really hope you are right, but it's difficult for me to be that optimistic.Couple of thoughts.... For me that's a lot.

You hit it on the head. If I am an assistant coach who was the bag man on these deals, Id already be in the US attorney’s office with my attorney cutting a deal to tell them all I know/did. No way would I take a fall for something that was coming from the top to begin with. The days of the Patinos of the world making the patsy take the fall are over, as the Feds are involved and they want the patsies rolling on the head cheese.
That's just it. These assistant coaches aren't the ring leaders organizing all this. They are just that the bag men which serves a couple purposes. It's a job for them to do for one thing and it keeps the head coaches/ADs at arms length away from it all. The whole plausible deniability card isn't going to fly when all the chirping gets started. I wonder to what extent the HCs can be held legally responsible if there's no 'proof' or paper trail directly tying them to any of it. I mean if a kid or their families word or even assistant coaches say yeah we talked about it is that enough to implicate them? You hit it on the head. Hmm well that'd include our dear friend Alford so that'd sure make things interesting. Are they an Adidas school? I could be wrong about thatGosh I just hope poor LaVar Ball's name doesn't come up in any of this.
Can't stand the thought of him going away. Forever.
Very interesting point raised here that a majority of Hawk fans probably don't feel comfortable coming to grips with. I have the sense that coaches like Raveling who don't quite cut it at the D1 level find themselves well compensated with the shoe companies. Keep in mind that Raveling recommended our current assistant who has a similar background and a long career with Nike and the AAU when Fran went to him seeking advice on who to hire as his third assistant.
Not trying to throw anybody under the bus but just want our fans to realize that while we won't have anybody going to jail Iowa may not come out of this as squeaky clean as we would all like to think. This whole thing will spread well beyond the obvious suspects as people start to talk. It gave me pause when I read that Iowa's recruitment of Tyler Cook has received mention in some of the articles.
Maybe if we all collectively pray for it, our prayers will be answered...Would be interesting...if the NCAA is implicated.
woah woah woah..... elaborate, please! I dont know anything about this stuff... Or if you could reference the articles you saw that mentioned tyler cook. thanks
They shouldnt be in troubleI can't tell if Gold's saying Michigan is gonna be in trouble or if Iowa State shouldn't be in a P5 conference.
