The dichotomy of Iowa’s offense and defense represents the state of the program

Iowa has had issues like this before BF. It has become worse in talent. Over the years Iowa has built big strong linemen that can fit in the NFL and develop but are weak on fundamentals going in. Doylizing O linemen is gone

Brian isn't going somewhere else.

Sometimes I don't know where you get this shit or why you spew this stuff. Iowa has been known to put guys in the NFL, in particular OL and TE, and the guys are physically and technically able to contribute right away the first year. What you state is completely wrong.

See. Wirtz, LIndebaum and many others. Schirff, Bulaga, etc. etc..

Why?

Ya'll see that video of Saban talking about how in the game against TN that TN lined up in the I formation in the redzone for a play or two and his players didn't have a clue what to do? Just described it as so archaic. TN usually stretches WRs out past the numbers and forces you to expand your coverage. It was a nice wrinkle for them to do something different in the redzone.

Our O is so basic. Even if you're fooled on the PA part of it you won't get burned for a long TD. Maybe a 14 yard bootleg to the sideline by a TE..

Because over the years it has shown up in reports. Iowa for sure has put linemen into the NFL.

Maybe in reversing the question, how does a HC who puts linemen into the NFL have a team that gets this bad? Same HC? Lindebaum was a BF prodigy. Did you by chance see the breakdown of Iowa's offense (and D) by an OSU site?

So, I reverse the question. How does a tenured coach have offensive line play this bad? Watch the video. If you are honest with yourself, Iowa's line has pretty big issues in most years. Offensively, I CJ wasn't starting in 2015, where would Iowa be?

How do you not see this shit? How do you reconcile an offense getting 66 yards in 2017 against a D that on Average gave up 301 yards per game?

W IL, New Mex and MN had like 150 yards. IU had like 250. OK good D. 66 yards? With O Line U? But that means that a number of solid teams which Iowa should be had well over 300.

How do you not see this shit?

It's not even that it's basic. Its terrible at basics.

OK, take a look on one lineman in NFL. He had positives. The negs are pretty basic.

  • Will default to sumo-style power push rather than leg churning at times
  • Not a grab-and-control pass protector
  • Opens the gate earlier than you would like against edge rushers offering two-way goes
  • Tightly wound lower body with average bend
  • Sometimes gives one-shot effort on second-level blocks, allowing his man back into the play
  • Has dominant finishing traits, but not a consistent finisher of blocks

  • Struggles a bit in space
  • Not highly instinctive
  • Doesn't have much upside
  • Sometimes plays too top heavy

  • Should improve ability to block counter moves to the inside
  • Can get surprised by speed to power, bull rushes
  • Falls to the ground too much
  • Needs some development

what is said a lot?

Work ethic.

I'm not saying they are terrible. I listen to sports shows and it is a comment about Iowa.

Watch the video I mentioned and compare the O line to D line.
