The Curse of Tom Davis...

The Chicago public leagues were a big deal when I was growing up has AAU completely change that dynamic? Chicago Simeon even relevant anymore?

Um, the likely #1 pick Jabari Parker is out of Simeon. Derrick Rose. Current Illini freshman (who looks like he will be a nightmare for us next year but took some time to find his groove this year) Kendrick Nunn. Yeah, it's relevant.

My bad.......I don't follow recruiting, obviously.

Big ten from top to bottom is tougher than it was when Davis was around.

Back then Indiana, Michigan, Illinois were power houses... purdue was an up and comer.

But it's nothing like now where there are 7-8 solid teams.

Yep, that's my point. The conference was great in Davis' early years, but it fell off. This year looked like a great window for us, but alas it wasn't meant to be. The mid majors seem to have gotten better, too. Such as Creighton. Alford beat Creighton in our last NCAA tourney win in 2001, but Creighton has been materially better than us for years.

As to mid majors, they are funneling a lot more resources into basketball because it is a relatively inexpensive way to get high profile brand recognition out there.

Everyone with exception of NW and Wisconsin was good in the 80s and 90s. When the conference was 10 and 11 teams, 6-7 routinely got bids. Iowa went 30-5 and got 4th in a conference.

80s were stronger.

I think the strength if this era is unknown...last year great, this year, the jury is most definitely out
