The change in the zone offense....

If this was already asked in another thread, I apologize....

But what was with the change in how we attacked the zone against NW? We had been killing teams with Woody at the high post and White along the baseline....which makes perfect sense since Woody is a pretty decent passer for a big man and White's one strength, typically, is finishing at the rim. But for some inexplicable reason we had our WORST passing big man (White) at the high post with our WORST finisher at the rim (Woody) on the baseline.

Did anyone see if this question was asked or does anyone have any theories as to why we would do this because, frankly, I'm at a loss to explain it.....

If it was Woody passing to white on ot, we would have gotten 4 points out of those 2 possessions instead of 1. I almost said we would have gotten 4 or 5 points with an and 1, but then i realized White would have dunked them before the defense even had a chance to foul.

SpiderRico you raise good points there. I definitely don't understand Woody on the baseline or White on the perimeter. Woody is not a good rebounder or finisher but he can make short jumpers and drive a wee bit for a layup, forget dunking it, it's not in his abilities.

How many 3's does White throw up every game, none of which go in? We don't have the best personnel in the nation but it's better than what it shows. Iowa game plans are not putting the players in position to be as successful as they could be, that is for sure.

Wow! Your last two sentences apply to our football program as well.

Eery. Wanna laugh or cry?

Not only was Woody on the baseline, but he wasn't even in a short corner most of the time. He was often 15-17' out. I have no idea why Iowa made that change. It didn't work.

I could be wrong but pretty sure the first half was Woody up high with White on the baseline but White was not getting touches. I think the change was made to get White touches in order to get him in the flow. Not saying I agree with that change.

I personally would have liked to see the twin towers with Gabe at the 4 in the second half some. White was just not effective in either role and with physical play in the post area.

I think you're right about both.

Fran needs to forget about getting White touches. He's a husle/fast-break/garbageman. Nothing wrong with that. Every team needs one. But for all the talk about getting locked in the gym/and out-working everyone in the gym...there is no jump shop and paint moves are as weak as jump shot.

He did nothing when he got the ball at the elbow. Not even a head fake. That's pretty bad when the "best" player on your team is no threat from the elbow.

Teams know White can't hit a jumper and they also know that Iowa does a poor job penetrating. Both were on display again yesterday.

Nobody on the team can catch a pass. You constantly see guys who are open mishandle the ball instead of a simple catch and shoot.
