The blue print to beat AZ this weekend

Take a look at this video. Our friends to the west gave us the blue print last year on how to beat these guys. We have a similar D. I hope we have the same results. I like the last play on the video. It is a pump and go. I think AZ will be trying to pick 6 stanzi again and this play could be huge for us.

See for yourself..

What about this "blueprint" should we emulate? The press coverage by the cornerbacks? Not our style and not sure Hyde is up to that task. The various option plays that Nebraska ran? Again, not in our gameplan.

Theres nothing new about this. Keep pressure on the QB.

Iowa's front four should be able to provide a lot of pressure. The offense will give them a lot of looks to confuese their defense.

Foles has thrown the ball almost immediately after he received the snap in his last two games, but maybe it was due to having terrible coverage down field? Or is he that much better than last year? well find out.

There was a breakdown after the season last year comparing Zona's pass offense against "bad" defenses with their pass O against "good" defenses. I forget what the threshhold was for good and bad, but most PAC-10 D's were considered "bad" by the definition in the breakdown. Basically, Arizona was lights-out against bad defenses but had little-to-no success against good defenses. IIRC, the biggest differences in "bad" and "good" defenses was the pressure they applied up front. When Foles was under pressure and the pocket was moving around him, he struggled and threw bad passes. When he was well-protected and there wasn't a lot of pocket motion, he looked like a phenom. I don't see him having nearly the success he's had this season so far against our pass rush.

That's right and could be said for most of the Pac 10. Oregon is the same thing. They will KILL a bad defense, but when a D like OSU plays them, they can't do what they are used to doing.

Nobody plays D in the Pac 10, so everyone's offense is great, until they play someone that can.

This video makes me feel much better than watching them play the Citadel.

Here are a few numbers that jumped out at me about Arizona's game with The Citadel. I watched the first half and the Citadel had success running the ball. They ended up with over 150 yds rushing. Yes, I realize the Citadel is an option team but they held the ball more then five minutes more then AU. Yes once again I know that time of possession is over rated but I think that you will see our o-fence able to play ball control football and chew up the clock. That's the type of game plan the we all are use to seeing and it can be your best d-fence sometimes. It will be up to our d-fence to contain their athletes on the offensive side of the ball. I'm not to worried about their run game but their passing game is potent. I think in the end Iowa wins 33 to 17
