The Big Ten could be real good this year

Ohio St looked good and will be.
Iowa looked pretty good, Wisconsin is looking good early. Michigan looked scary good on offense. Penn St had a rough start but came on strong. Michigan St looked good today too. Indiana was even impressive (albeit against a terrible team). I think this will be one of the stronger years in the Big Ten in a long time (top to bottom), maybe ever.

Minnesota beat a good Middle Tennessee State team, NW beat a SEC team.

illannoy players danced and preened when they managed to tackle a Mizzou player
that's gotta be worth something, right? :D

And here I thought I'd go the whole day without the involvement of the word "preened". Damned if ya do and damned if ya don't.

Obviously that inspirational halftime speech by Coach Zook was just what the Illini players needed to give up a 10 up lead and lose

LOL! and the "speech" delivered in that stupid hoarse voice that zooker has.
I can't stand that f'n jackwagon. Yet, I hope illannoy retains him.
What a conundrum.

The beauty of division allignments is that we get to experience it from afar for the foreseeable future.

I agree with you but I think people are overreacting from one game. Regarding michigan, robinson looked great. I don't think he will be able to carry the ball 30 times a game and survive and remember uconn didn't know who the starter was going to be and they didn't have much, if any tape on the "new" denard robinson. Michigans d was a fumble on the 2 away from letting uconn back in it. It will be a tough game no doubt but I'm not ready to call them "back"just yet.

Worse fingernails on a blackboard voice?.... Bruce Weber or Ron Zook?

Must be something in the water at Illinois.

And yes, the Big Ten looks very tough...especially our schedule. The only two teams to lose in in the league this week? Purdue and Illinois. The only two teams in the league Iowa does not play? Purdue and Illinois.

This league is truly going to be a guantlet this year.

Robinson looked dynamic vs a good team.
Clay looked overpowering against a decent team.
Pryor looked special vs an average team.
Persa looked very dangerous vs an SEC team. I hate NW,but gotta hand it to them, they always find playmakers at QB.
Minny looks more physical than in the past.
MSU has talent,as always.
PSU has young talent this year.
IU has a senior qb,who is can play, and Willits is a solid rb.

That is our big ten schedule right there...any blowouts in that crew?
Welcome to Iowa football 2010...same as Iowa 2009..nail-biter city.

I don't see Robinson running the Big Ten gauntlet unscathed.

He may not get knocked out of a game entirely, but he'll get worn down for sure. Most running backs do, even running backs that are considerably larger than Denard Robinson, even though his shiftiness will help him avoid some hits. Terrell Pryor even struggled with injuries last year and he is considerably larger and didn't run nearly as much.

Michigan is still a year or two out from greatness. If you take away their turnover problems they would have been a 7 and 5 or so team last year. That's where I'd expect them to be this year, too, with the potential to do worse again if everything goes down hill. Although it will make things harder for Iowa, a good Michigan is ultimately good for the Big Ten, even if I'm not a Rich Rod fan.

As for the Big Ten as a whole, most teams I watched this week looked just as good or better than last year. The only team I didn't see any of was Northwestern, and they won their game and sound pretty solid on paper.

The only upshot about this is that Iowa could lose a few games and still potentially get to the Rose Bowl if Ohio State loses a few during its schedule as well.

The Big Ten is looking REAL tough. I'm thinking the little "down" period we have seen from the middle to late part of the decade is officially over - I'm seeing some teams that look ready to compete on the national stage.

I sure as heck don't see anyone getting through at 8-0...no way. It's really looking like the kind of year where 6-2 will win the conference. That means, as an Iowa fan, I think we have to be prepared that we could be a really good team and finish the year 9-3, 8-4 (depending on how the non-conf slate goes).

I don't see an easy out on our schedule from here out, except for Ball St (although if our experience last year w/UNI, Ark St, etc is any indication, let's not get carried away counting that one as a W yet either!)

Great post. Everyone was ready to put Michigan back up on top after the first few games last year, then they crashed back down. I'm not going to take too much from the 1st game, a game they should have one by the way. Robinson did look good, but I can't imagine how sore he is today and probably the next couple of days, and this was just 1 game.
