I'll preface this with this is in fact a total fantasy and I know it will never ever ever happen. But imagine if you woke up and read the following press release:

BIG 10 BRUSHES OFF NCAA EXPANDS TO 32 TEAMS.

Chicago (AP) In a stunning move, Jim Delaney announced on Monday that the Big 10 was removing itself from the NCAA for what he described as "mass hypocrisy as it realtes to rules violations." The newly formed league will have 8 divisions in football and 4 in basketball and stretch from coast to coast.

Many Big 10 universities were awe struck when Cam Newton was allowed to be eligible for the National Championship game, but players such as Dez Bryant, AJ Green and in what turned out to be the straw that broke the camels back, several Ohio State football players were suspended for minor violations that the league deemed antiquated.

Delaney said in a statement. "These days it appears more and more that our values as a conference do not align with the values of the NCAA. We value education, sportsmanship, fairness and we've become disgusted with the exploitation of our revenue generating athletes. We will not pay players but we also will not treat a student receiving a football scholarship any different than we would a student receiving a music scholarship."

In football, the 8 division winners will play on campus playoffs with the championship game being played at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, CA.

In both men's and women's basketball, the top 4 teams in each 8 team division will go to the new Big Ten tournament with permanent sites to be determined.

Delaney continued, "as much as it pains all of our new member institutions to leave the NCAA, it is best for our schools, our fans and our athletes."

More is expected in this bombshell of a story. Included in the announcement is the divisional alignment for both sports. The Big 10 network will also expand to 8 separate channels and will continue to partner with ESPN and ABC for coverage of all sports.

OK - I woke up, what a weird dream.

I may be in the minority but I do believe that Delany's ultimate goal thru the entire expansion/realignment process was & is to leave the NCAA.

No way would something like this fly without the top SEC teams included. The media would still fawn over them, and make it out like the Big 32 (or whatever you want to call it) were just scared to take on the best in the land.

Delany wants to lead the exodus from the NCAA and control EVERYTHING...
bowls, tourneys, recruiting, TV & especially ACADEMICS, because, quite simply the playing field is not even remotely equal. I won't go into the well chronicled academic issues or recruiting issues coming from the SEC. We all know the only difference between the SEC & the NFL is that the SEC doesn't have a salary cap.

The question is how does he do it.

Right now, what we're seeing for the first time is Delany & others being very critical PUBLICALLY of the NCAA. I've been watching at who those people are. Delany, P10 commish Larry Scott & the ACC leadership have all made critical comments in public.
I think that's the starting point.
That's 36 universities and that is a MAJORITY of BCS AQ programs.
This public display is the ground work, the initial step.

Delany doesn't want to exclude the SEC, that's bad business, he wants to control them & make them play by his rules, the B10 rules.

I believe that within 10 yrs the NCAA will no longer exist as we know it & I believe the governing body of college athletics will be directed primarily of B10 officials.
