BDS, people who live in glass houses...............
Clearly, you haven't got the first clue about the difference between speculation, opinion and fact. It's hard to imagine that anyone would actually say, with a straight face, that the opinions of anonymous forum posters carries any weight at all. Your speculation that Barta simply took the easy path assumes that he was the only one involved in the search and subsequent decision to hire... and that whoever else was involved just went along with it.
That's pretty ridiculous.
You qualify as noise from the sidelines.
Lick is out of coaching (couldn't even cut it at an NAIA school)It's not really "opinion" when everything they said turned out to be correct. Now is it?
Yes. I'M the confused one.
It is a FACT that Butler fans came here and said that.
It is a FACT that they were 100% correct as Brad Stephens now coaches in the NBA and Lick now fails in coaching purgatory.
It is a FACT that you have no idea what "hindsight" means.
It is a FACT that you cannot admit when you're wrong.
I don't care who else was involved in the search. They share in Barta's failure. But we aren't talking about them, are we? If you want to talk about them, start another thread and name names.
Feel free to continue on with your straw man arguments and "noise from the sidelines".
I didn't blame Barta for destroying anything. Even someone as limited in vision and creativity as Barta and probably even yourself, could run the Iowa athletic department and turn a profit. Here are the keys, don't screw it up. Barta couldn't manage that much. When 15 to 20K empty seats are visible in Kinnick this season, we'll see who actually "knows something" and who doesn't. I wouldn't expect you to admit it even then, however. You keep writing those checks to Gary. He's gonna need it.Complete nonsense like this is the reason why Gary Barta runs one of the most successful athletic programs in the nation and you're an anonymous internet wannabe who thinks he actually knows something.
To get back to the original false premise that ignited this discussion.... Gary Barta did not, in fact, destroy the Hawkeye basketball program. Last time I checked it still exists... and is thriving... under the direction of the guy Barta hired.
But I guess you're perfect. You've probably never made a decision that didn't work out as planned... uh huh.

I tend to agree with you. I think much of this is speculation. I think I would be less happy with an AD that got lucky than one that made the "right hire" with TL then quickly fixed the problem.
It seems to me that most people don't like Barta because he "ruined football". In 09', which I believe was when the contract was extended the previous 8 years Iowa had 4 top 10 finishes and 2 Big Ten titles. Does that seem that crazy to want to keep a guy like that around? I honestly believe if he were at a Michigan or Ohio State he would likely have a NC given the talent that wants just to wear the jersey.
What do you think BDS? How badly has Barta screwed up things? The one thing that really ****** me off is the gameday experience and all the guffaws that the athletic department has made. Those are borderline inexcusable for me, but he and Ferentz have been there upgrading athletic facilities which will help immensely in the future.
To anyone, I know football IS THE MOST IMPORTANT THING, but take a step back and tell me is it just the extension of Ferentz that makes you hate him or is there another valid reason?
