The 4th down play late against Nebby last year

It was a gutty call by KF as it was 4th and about 8 from about the nebby 40 with 40+ seconds to go. Mess it up and Nebby can get a fg and win it. But I think KF really showed confidence in his offense and especially with Stanley on a rainy field. The blocking picked up the blitz, Stanley came through with a good throw as I wasnt sure if Hock was sort of falling before the catch or contorted to make the catch. But the throw was on the money.

The only game for Stanley since then was the bowl game and he performed well except for that one pick. I hope and think Nate feeds off that success this year.

It was a gutsy call but also the smart call. Iowa's D was cooked and Kirk knew it. Nebraska had them on the field the entire 4th quarter. I think Kirk probably figured OT was not a good option with a gassed out D trying to stop a good QB.

Iowa's best chance to win that game was converting that 4th & 8 and getting in FG range.

We were CLEARLY the better team most the day. But MOMENTUM is a funny thing. We were on our heels the last half quarter. Yes, we probably lose that in OT. I was ok with going for the fake FG. Kirk has been playing to WIN, instead of NOT LOSE (like many years past). Maybe his son, and newest Parker DC have a little something to do with that. Hope that continues.

I know this is re-hashing but when you are dominating a team and have a chance to have a three score lead mid to late third qtr on a very short FG , take the FG.

It just seems, like for most teams, theHaeks respond when playing agressive and to win, rather than tight and conservative (not to lose) Been on the other end of that so long, it’s refreshing to see the change. Love it.
