That was pretty rough

And it doesn't get any easier going to MSU next.. So to me this is THE point in the season. This young team can finish strong in the top half of the muddled up BIG or they can fall back. It would be quite the accomplishment if they could finish strong considering all the unknowns and what little expectations they had at the start of the season. When you take into account a couple of the bad losses and poor defensive efforts and you have a team that's really improved a ton. I just hope they can bounce back after this brutal brutal game. That could leave a scar. Just don't let the refs beat you 2 games before you even tip off the 2nd game. MSU is at a cross roads too with their season. They can either pick themselves up after letting Michigan kick them around or their season could end pretty disappointing for them. Let's hope we can make it the latter.

We're screwed next game. No way we come home from a double ot loss on the road, just to hit the road again for a game 3 days later, and play with any sort of energy it will take to win. Our only chance is if Michigan State sucks worse.

Yeah I'm not putting my mortgage on it by any means either... But just think of how impressive of a job it'd be if Fran can get this young group to pull it off. Jok seems to be back (depending on how his ankle is that may have swelled up since last night) I think it wouldn't be the most impossible of tasks anyway only because MSU isn't exactly unbeatable. However just with the circumstances being what they are it sure seems to be. Frans got his work cut out for him I'm curious how he'll be handling the next couple days leading up to it.

I tell ya though, yes, we should've won last night, should've won at Nebraska, but I'm awfully surprised where we're actually sitting. This could be the game where we get MSU...Likely, probably not, but there's always a chance. The kids have had success and you can't take that away from them. We'll see...

Like a lot of posters have already said - the chances of winning at MSU probably decreased greatly with last night. I mean, obviously last night was proof that the team is making strides, were focused and playing well...and to just have it ripped away from you is pretty dejecting on short rest. Had they won, got the reward for the hard work, I could of seen them carrying that confidence and focus to Saturday...now, it just kind of seems up in smoke. I hope that those of us thinking along those lines are all wrong...and if we are, well, mentally these kids are pretty tough. I just don't see it now.

I hear ya... That to me is where the hope I have comes from. They've beaten a damn good Purdue team. They've had coulda shoulda games they were right there in. To me they've exceeded expectations already for this year but that doesn't mean we or they should be satisfied by that. Go shock the world and beat MSU in their place when everyone is righting you off. Finish year strong going into the BIG tourney and let chips fall where they may

I'm not, honestly.

I'm not ripping your post - Where I'm coming from is that before the season, I was thinking 16-18 wins or so and an NIT bid.. At this point, that appears to be about what we're on track for.

I figured there would be some games like last night, the win over Purdue, etc. where the team competes and surprises a few people.. And others like the NW game where you are just like WTF was THAT?

It's hard to know exactly how you're going to get to your final record, but to this point, I'd say this season is coming along more or less how I figured it would. The overall record won't be great but I think we're seeing progress, which is all I really was expecting as the season winds down.

Perspective is a funny thing. I just check a few goofer boards. They are convinced that the time out no call was questionable. They also agree that the officiating was horrendous. Other than that, they are of the opinion that Iowa got the benefit of 95% of the calls so they are the victims, not Iowa. LOL

Ha 'questionable' my foot... I'll give them this their fans being as loud and rowdy at that point had as much to do with the refs not 'hearing' or acknowledging the TO call as anything. But for peats sake it wasn't just him that was calling for a TO the other players all were too so none of the other refs saw them either? Give me a break. What really really irked me about it is that they had a conference right after. It's one thing to call it wrong initially but when given the chance to fix it they didn't....

I was at the game last night and the homer fans around me were just screaming at the refs for everything. There was one play where Jok shot the ball from around the free throw line and was fouled and clearly the gopher player reached his hand in and hit jok in the arm and the people lost their F'ing minds. The one gopher fan next to me agreed it was a foul, but only under his breath because everyone else just went mentally insane on the refs.

I give Iowa a 5% chance of winning in East Lansing. A double OT road game that started at 8pm, plus a bus ride back to Iowa City would have them getting in around 4am Thursday? That basically gives them a day of rest before flying to michigan for another tough road game. yeah that's a loss

Most likely, as I recall, following the double OT loss to Nebby we came home to play Rutgers and looked like absolute garbage. And that was at home. Could get ugly @ msu.

Not gonna lie - I felt like Iowa got a few calls last night too on some out of bounds calls.

I noticed favorable and unfavorable calls the whole game, just like every other game because they all suck so bad at their jobs. Those were all forgettable and forgivable tho. The timeout wasn't.

agree - it was at a pivotal part of the game - happened right in front of the ref and everyone in the world knows he's calling a TO in that situation

Don't get the doom and gloom about going to MSU. MN is a better team at this point and the worst place to play basketball. I'm getting more optimistic about this team (if they get a point guard) and still optimistic if they don't.

MN is something like 21 in the RPI for a reason. Good training for East Lansing.
