Big Negative - There have already been plenty of threads about the offense and especially the OLine. Cant say much more but it needs to improve immensely by next year. The tackles need to be much more effective. THIS OFFENSE DOESNT WORK WITHOUT AN ABOVE AVG TO GREAT RUNNING GAME BECAUSE OF A LACK OF PLAY ACTION OFF THE RUN. Great field position in the second qtr was just wasted by play calling and execution.
Positve - But the defense played really well for 3 qtrs+. Those two big plays they gave up reminded me of early in the 2014 Outback Bowl where LSU's running back speed hurt the hawks with 2 big early runs but then the hawks adjusted. In this case Corum's speed caught them along with good blocking. And Jamari got beat but he is young (maybe he was in man to man and blew his assignment or it was zone and it was a whole secondary issue). But the hawk defense buttoned it up until the last few late drives. If both field goals were made and the halftime score was 14-6 at a one score game it would have been better. The hawks going down 3 scores TO ANY TEAM is mostly very bad.
Positives - Laporta really looked good for most of the game, Lachey could be real good. For once Petras started a game really well and was throwing the ball very well but after some hits etc and the pass rush he just had a tough time. He throwed it well on some waggle roll outs. Padilla had his best percentage passing game but most were shorter passes.
Negative - KJohnson and Bruce got covered much easier by more athletic dbacks. These are two mainly slot receiver types because of not blinding speed and their height. The hawks still do not have a top notch receiver who can body up and get the ball.
In the end, this is about poor offense especially not finishing in the red zone. Portal at least one or two tackles if they are out there (but I doubt it).
