Thanks to Jon Miller - A Great Hawkeye

Thanks Jon Miller for another great year of Iowa football. I know that the season didn't turn out the way Iowa fans hoped for, but every game was fun and competitive and there were a lot of great memories. Heck, we are going to a bowl game!

Your site adds to the enjoyment of Iowa football and allows amateurs and old folks like me a forum to contribute to the discussion. I readily admit that I have very little knowledge about football, but it is still fun to post and to participate. Your ongoing posts are tremendously informative, including the one you posted today about Iowa's bowl prospects.

I am going to make a pledge in 2011 to do a better job and try to post only when I have something interesting or educational to contribute. I owe it to you and this board. I also think that some of the student-athletes read these posts, so I will weigh and consider every word before I post. I am also going to keep in mind that there may even be coaches that read this board from time-to-time, so any comments need to be fair and objective. They are not above criticism, but making personal attacks really isn't appropriate.

Thanks again for a great 2010 - looking forward to the bowl game and to basketball season with Coach Fran at the helm.

Nothing, my friend. How much are you getting paid to be such a cynic, or is it just part of your DNA?

I have never met Jon Miller in my entire life.

This board is overrun by cynics and bad comedians. I guess that is ok to a point, but doesn't it get a little tedious?

Chosen you did this board a great service last week by looking up Kirk's record in close games and dispelling all the BS with real facts. Keep that solid work up and I for one will appreciate having you around :)

Thanks. This is what I want to do for the rest of my life, and the thanks actually goes to all of you for allowing me to be able to do this.

In every forum I have been in, I have a) admitted I was way off and b) made fun of myself. There's no more blood I have to give :)

Haha. Just had to throw that in there. Honestly, the table was set for a 10-11 win season I'll admit.

I was joking. I guess that makes me a bad comedian?

Jon, I agree with the OP's sentiments completely. You are a Hawkeye Legend, brother. When Dolph and Eddy P hang up the mic, I will go out and buy one of those stadium radios when they hand the mic over to you. I would like to see you replace Eddy P and Pam Ward replace Dolph, that would be a pretty epic combo, I hope we see that someday.

This has been the most entertaining day on this site in awhile, and this paragraph here is the cherry on top. Classic!

I saw the wink. I get it. But he is a cynic. You have to admit that as well.

I'll admit that I am an old fuddy duddy who doesn't know very much about football. And sure, I don't get some of the tongue-in-cheek stuff. It is hard to tell sometimes when someone is serious and someone is putting you on when all you have to go on is an anonymous post (in writing).

I just think there is too much ripping on players on this site, especially this fall. Isn't it interesting that the Big Ten coaches voted Adrian Clayborn first team, after all of the posts criticizing his effort? Did you see that the Football Writers voted him first team All-American? Isn't that interesting? If you read this board alone, you would have thought he was having a horrible year.

Regarding the coaching staff, sure, 7-5 is disappointing. But making wholesale, voluntary changes to your coaching staff after you have won 65% of your games the past 10 years? That doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me.

It might be interesting for Jon Miller to look back in the archives when this board was started and talk about what he intended it to be so many years ago. Is there an original set of "bylaws" or other suggestions or guidelines on what Jon Miller intended? Perhaps he could reproduce the original communications he made to potential customers when the board first started. I think that would be fascinating. Perhaps this board right now is exactly what Jon intended. It sure is entertaining, I have to admit that.

My only point in making this post was to thank J. Miller for all of his hard work on this board. It is a thankless job when the team is not doing well. It is a lot more fun to break down 11-2 Orange Bowl seasons. Heck, we almost lost him to the BigTenNetwork this year. We still might. It just wouldn't be the same without him.

They voted him on name recognition, not by what he did on the field. There are way to many whiners about posters ripping on players. To play football you better have tough skin. Im sure these players get alot more heat from the coaches during film review. If the players do read this forum and get upset cause someone doesnt think they did a good job, they need to find a different career to follow. It only gets worse once you go pro.

I dont think that there is more complaining or griping on this site than any of the other sites that cover the hawks and have fan interaction. I visit them all at least once a week, and in a year where there is disappointment, unicorn kisses aren't being handed out anywhere :)

No person is perfect, no board is perfect...but the passion for the Hawkeyes is certainly alive and well here, which is all I ever want to be associated with

+1. If there was no disappointment or complaining going on, then you would know the passion for the hawks is then too gone. We are a very passionate fanbase. That is a good thing
