Texas to Big Ten- KC Radio

I was just listening to Kevin Keitzman on 810 WHB here in KC (who, by the way, I absolutely cannot stand), and here were the following arguments he made as to why the Big Ten would turn down inviting Texas to the Big Ten.

1. Texas would dominate the Big Ten in football more than they currently "dominate" the Big 12, as the Big Ten is a weaker football conference.

2. The Big Ten would not want Texas to constantly be the team in the Rose Bowl and would thus be taking money away from the other members of the conference.

My point in highlighting these arguments is illustrating how misinformed people are on this subject. I will stay with my original statement on Big 10 expansion that it should either be Notre Dame (or Texas) or bust.

texas would not be taking money away from othe rbig ten schools. as i understand it, all big ten schools share the money equally. If iam wrong then i am worng, but this is what i always understood.

Btw, i don't belive this rumor. Not a good thing for texas to pull out of the big twelve. Not a good thing for the big ten to have them either.

Joe-

I believe Jim Delaney at his word when he said that the Big Ten has not made any overtures to any other school. I really like having such a conventional, old-school person like Delaney at the helm of the Big Ten while going through this phase of potential expansion. He will not allow the Big Ten to be forced into anything, nor will he just take action for the sake of taking action.

Point #1. As shown by the Big Ten's 2-0 BCS record this year, and overall good bowl performance? I had hoped that a good BCS showing by the Big Ten this year would put all of this "Big Ten is a weak conference" crap to rest, but obviously it didn't.

Point #2. As opposed to Ohio State winning the conference every year?

It's not a rumor. Texas and the Big Ten have had discussions. That doesn't mean Texas will join the Big Ten.

We heard the same crap when Penn State joined the Big Ten (they will dominate; they will go to the Rose Bowl every year; etc. etc.).

It didn't happen - in fact, Iowa has won as many Big Ten championships as have been won by Penn State during the time Penn State has been in the Big Ten, and Iowa has dominated Penn State over that time period.

Texas will not dominate the Big Ten any more than Penn State did. Texas would be a great addition to the conference, obviously.

Keitz is a Big Ten hater...no doubt about it. I got to know him a bit when I did some part time work for 1510, before they bought 810....pure hate. He is a KC lifer, went to Kansas State, and therefor he has little brother syndrome as it relates to Kansas and pretty much everyone else.

He had me on his show back in November of 2002 prior to the BCS selection process. Kansas State had sent some folks down to Miami to make their case for getting an Orange Bowl invite. He was asking me how I thought Iowa was worthy of getting a BCS bid, or how he was supposed to take them seriously, when they had lost to Iowa State.

I came back and said the same way that Oklahoma State beat Oklahoma, or Colorado State beat Colorado; those one off rivalry games, anything can happen...he was silent, and Danny Clinkscale, his sidekick said: 'Good point' and then we moved on. He never had me on the show again after that ;)

That is pretty good. You don't need to go down to Kansas City to hear the very same thing here in Clownville.

Jon-

I am really glad to hear about your experience with Keitzman. I know that you lived down in KC for awhile, so I was curious to hear your thoughts about him as a sports talk radio host.

You are dead-on when you say that he has little brother K-State syndrome. He compensates by giving KU as many back-handed compliments as possible when KU plays well and absolutely bombs on the Jayhawks when they do not play well.

With respect to the Big Ten expansion issue, I was surprised to hear Delaney say that the Big Ten would make an announcement this spring or later this summer.

Go Hawks!

I'd love to put that "Dominate" theory to the test with Texas having to play outdoor games, in November, possibly in the snow and lower 30s at Kinnick, Happy Valley or Columbus...let's see how they roll...PULL THE TRIGGER TEXAS!

Right now, I'd be fine if the Big Ten just added Nebraska. Osborne knows they are not the most favored nation in that league, or even in the top two...in the Big Ten, they wouldnt be either, but they would be cashing freaking checks. Northwestern makes more TV revenue each year than does Nebraska, or Texas, or any school in the nation not in the Big Ten.

This guy sounds like a grade A doucher

He can be tough to listen to on some topics...but when he gets a news/sports story, he covers it as well as anyone I have ever heard.

I actually think it would be exciting and potentally very lucrative to have Texas join the Big Ten. And I love it how they're apparently a bit like Penn St who thought 'they would dominate the Big Ten'.

Funny how the Penn St fans don't talk much smack to Iowa Hawkeye FB fans, these days!

Wouldn't adding Missouri make more sense with the St Louis and Kansas City television markets? Not sure the Omaha market would add much to Big Ten exposure.

Mizzou doesn't have the kind of academics that the Big 10 will be looking for, so I don't consider them a very strong candidate. The only thing they bring to the table is the market, and KC/STL isn't a HUGE market. The kind of TV sets that Texas would deliver are far more enticing. The only three schools that I'll be okay with are Texas, Pitt, and Nebraska, in that order.

Can Texas play in cold weather? None of us even know the answer to that question because they never do. I would give the nod to teams that play in the cold often...I honestly doubt Texas would win a B10 championship very often if they were in the conference. I would go so far to say that they win it 1 or 2 times for every 10 years of B10 play if that.

The question isn't "can they play in cold weather". The obviously have many times before in road trips to Lincoln and Ames. The difficulty is doing it on a more consistent basis. I'd still expect them to play 8 games in the state of Texas every year if they wanted to.
