Maybe Texas and ND can form a league together.....just the two of them...they seem to belong to one another.
Throw in USC and Miami, and you could call it the DB Conference.

On face value Texas looks like they schooled everyone and no doubt they controlled most of what took place but when you dig deeper into the details I'm convinced they ultimately were punked by little brother Texas A&M.
Other than pure total earnings power did they come out better from this last minute deal?
In the process....
# 1 They found out no other conference would give into their demands for total control/power
# 2 Weakened their own conference with the loss of Nebraska & Colorado
- They lost Tier 1 institutions in Nebraska and Colorado
- No title game
- For expansion they absolutely do not want to add another team from the State of Texas but may have to or be forced to by the Texas Regents
- The remaining suitors outside of Texas to add are not that great with the exception of Notre Dame; Cinncinnatti, Louisville, etc. are not exactly awe inspiring
# 3 Gave the underlings much more revenue than they needed to in order to hold the league together
# 4 Will build a personal network valued at an additional $3-5 million? Wow.... considering what they conceeded I do not see this as a win unless they can make it the league wide future network that they control.
# 5 Despite future steep penalty language for league exit the possibility still exists of losing one or more North teams in the future
# 6 The SEC will be in a position in time to renegotiate and/or start their own network which will widen the gap again between the SEC & Big 12. The Big Ten will carefully look for and add a major market or two to further revenue if need be or sell additional advertising for icing on the cake. This widens the gap over time. How much more can be squeezed from ESPN or Fox just on the basis of having UT ???
I don't know all.... I'm not seeing below the surface how Texas made out so great in this deal.
I truly think they were blindsided by A&M and the fear of opening up the Texas recruiting hotbed to A&M in the SEC.
Perhaps but the Big 12 has two marquee teams and nothing else. So TX and OK roll through their conference like a combine and those two teams decide who plays in a BCS game, not necessarily a NC game. After a few years the Big 12 will not be considered a power league like it once was simply because it is so watered down. Because one of those two teams can go undefeated every year does not mean they will get automatic bids to the NC game in a watered down league compared to the Big 10 and SEC, which has more powerful leagues. It won't take long before the Big 10 and SEC with the more powerful leagues to get nods over a watered down Big 12...The winner of the Big 10/SEC championship will probably be in the NC game, not a watered down winner of the Big 12...that will cause the collapse of the Big 12...
If Texas starts the year ranked in the top 5 (3?) and runs the table - they'll be in plenty of NC games. You don't have to like it, but I feel that it's going to be the reality. This wasn't just about money, because Texas could have made a ton of money in the Pac 10 or Big 10.
spot on. if OK or TX is anywhere even within the top 15 preseason, which they generally will be in the top 10, and they go undefeated it won't matter, they'll be in the NC game. BSU almost gets to one of the top 2 positions when they go undefeated and their schedule is less than watered down its just plain weak.
In a watered down conference, Texas had better win some of their next BCS games. See tOSU getting smoked a couple of times coming out of what was viewed as a weaker confrence and watered down schedule. Bama gave Texas their first beat down. Texas may suffer the same fate, it only takes a few bad performances to begin the rumblings of over rated/ undeserving, and a few rumblings can quickly turn into a tidal wave. The smaller conference, with no Nebby and no title game won't help if Texas doesn't dominate.
As for teh BSU, TCU talk, I think we might see one of those teams in a NC game just to get the mistique out of the way and fulfill the what if thirst out there. I think that will promptly be followed by contorversy and new rules that mandate a set number of victories over BCS teams.
