Don't mean to distract everyone from the inward gazing...But I thought it might be interesting to discuss the match up with Tennessee.

Looks like they played Georgia & Alabama quite well. One thing is for sure: TN schedule>UI schedule

I think it's about as good of a matchup as we could get (given the other predictions I saw). They played a tougher schedule, beat who they were supposed to, played tough against better teams, lost a few close ones.

Not sure what to expect, much like most of the year, it depends which Iowa offense shows up and if the good one does, can they sustain it the whole game.

Tenn has more talent, plays in a tougher conference. Who knows.

I thought football was over. Don't we have like 3 weeks until we have to endure it again?

In the meantime, NC, it's still a bit too fresh, what, with the CIA report just released yesterday. How 'bout you pour a little more salty lemon juice on my 1000 paper cuts! Could ya have had a little mercy and waited till after Christmas?

Good, grief, NC - Happy Holidays to you, too!

I drew you a picture of a christmas tree. I'll scan it and share it with you. make you feel better.

Iowa should DOMINATE at both lines of scrimmage.
We will probably look strong on both 1st and 2nd down, and then give up that 3rd down conversion, more often than not.
It should be a low scoring game, but Iowa has 15 practices to figure out the running game.
I'll give Kirk a couple of hints.
1. It rhymes with the phrase: Cordon Janzeri.
2. It also rhymes with the phrase: Lery Vittle of Wark Meisman.

Tennessee OL has been a disaster this season, but they will have these same extra practices to get things "cleaned up."

Through the many faults of Kirk that have pointed out on these message boards, the one consistent positive is that the team looks prepared for the bowl games.

I see one decent win on that schedule and it was the win over South Carolina. That does trump Iowa's 0 decent wins?

This is going to be a very good matchup. In my opinion Iowa will definitely have the advantage in the trenches. While ill give TN the advantage in skill players and speed on the outside. I think alot of this gm is going to come down between Jake & Dobbs. Whos QB can limit the mistakes and make a few big plays has the upper edge.

Herd is the real deal at RB. I was at the Georgia / Tennessee game in Athens. Tennessee played them tough...and their offensive line is big. Herd is a big back with some wiggle for a big guy...he played really well that day...to get the yards he did. That was a very close game...and in doubt until Gurley took over. He single handedly won that game for Georgia.

This will be a test for Iowa...I expect a very close game unless Tennessee's QB is throwing INT's...then it could get away from them.

The Hawks Dline is going to be a big challenge for the Vols young Oline. I dont think TN run gm is going to be able to do much against the Hawks Dline. Tn is going to have to spread it out and use their athletes on the outside. The Hawks need to get Weisman off early and often. Im a big fan of both teams so im just going to sit back and enjoy it.

I tried visualizing Iowa playing those teams to those scores.

Got a headache.

I tried a couple hours later.

Now I'm blind.

Almost every team we've played has been able to run on us. This is the exact type of qb that kills our defense, so wouldn't be shocked if they run the ball on us. Weisman? Let's get him off to his 3 yd runs early and often, i'm sure TN is shaking in their boots at the thought of trying to stop him. All they have to do is put everyone in the box and make checkdown charlie try and beat them, and we're done. Wait, I bet captain clueless will get crazy and have some 5 yard outs ready for the TN defense. That will fool the hell out of them.

I agree with you on Dobbs at QB. Its going to be a tough challenge on keeping Dobbs from making big yrds on busted plays. If they cant contain him it could be a long day for the Hawks. Tn has been decent at stopping the run this yr so we will see if they can slow Weisman down. But TN oline has been awful this yr. So Carl Davis and the Dline might have a big day.

TN has skill guys all over the place. Their qb is pretty darn athletic but he's only got 3 games or so under his belt. I hope Iowa brings heat. Their Oline is their weakness so don't just rush 4 and give them a break hoping theyll bring enough pressure. Cause if they are creative and get their stud receivers the ball in space they can gash us. I say blitz early and often make him make a quick decision. I don't think they'll be expecting us to do that and I don't think he'll be that great at finding his hot read/check down even if he is prepared. Letting him setup in the pocket with 4 rushers is just setting ourselves up for what's happened the numerous other times we've played against similar teams....
