Tennessee QB opting out

Joe Milton had 20 TD's, 5 int's, 2800 yards passing, 65% completion percentage, 300 yards rushing.

A 5 star true freshman will start. His bio from 247 Sports:

Iamaleava just continues to get better and his upside is as high as anyone in the ’23 class. He has an athletic 6-5 frame and is not just a talented quarterback but a gifted volleyball player as well. Has made huge strides over the last year in terms of his pocket feel, ability to throw on time and anticipate. He always had a big arm but can now change speeds, go through progressions and make accurate touch throws down the field look easy. He has exceptional escapability and is just as dangerous outside the pocket as he is throwing in it. He’s always a threat to take off and run for big yards when flushed or on designed running plays. He’s a tough kid as well who will stand in and take a shot and when he’s running in the open field, he looks more like a big receiver than a signal caller. He’s a natural leader with a high compete level and a great off the field work ethic. There are zero character concerns with him and he’s a future captain who other players gravitate towards. There is not a throw on the field he can’t make, he’s comfortable throwing off-platform or being creative when he needs to be and combined with his rapidly improving football IQ and toughness, he has a chance to be a very special player at the next level and beyond.

Last year 4* FR QB Destin Wade started for Kentucky and went 16/30 for 98 yds / 0 tds / 2 int against the hawks after levis declared for the draft and elected not to play in the bowl game. I get the feeling this true freshman 5* will end up having a similar stat line.

Iowa's D would not be a great team to have your first start again, but if they have a good game plan and the kid doesn't turn the ball over, they only have to score about 13 to beat us.

Iowa should have a walk in the park.
TN has multiple players opting out. Freshman QB starting.
We're ranked higher.
Won more games.
Plus we get spotted 7 pts.

Its funny having more fan confidence in playing a good SEC team on a neutral field then we did against Nebraska or Illinois, but here we are.....
I think it would've been much higher had both of those teams had 75% of their rushing yards and 90% of their passing yards on the sidelines. ;)

The line has moved 2 points in Iowa's favor but their still a TD-dog. Implied score is 21-14.5 with O/U still at 35.5 points. I'd think that total should move lower and can see this game being 12-10 Iowa or 17-10 TN.

I had to laugh when I heard their starter, who's angling for the NFL draft, decided to opt out of the Iowa game. After watching tape of Iowa's defense, I figured he (and his family) decided, "Uhhh, maybe you oughta just sit this one out." Considering how average the Hawks made Michigan's QB look, if you're trying to improve your draft stock, Iowa's not the D you want to play after they've had a month to prepare for ya. My guess is that if TN was playing USC, he'd be playing.
Remember when we used to pull our hair out watching 1st-time starting QBs pick Iowa's defense apart? Yes, that was under Phil Parker, as recently as a couple years ago. He would typically plan to run Iowa's base D, no matter WHO was starting -- which allowed some pretty average QBs to put up some good #s. Then he would bring more blitzes in the 2nd halves, if necessary. I feel like he's grown the past couple years and hopefully he won't let the new TN QB just sit back at the start of the game and run their designed plays unhindered.

Another interesting signal that we're on the cusp of Armageddon ... the BIG 20-ish West is 2-0!o_O
With ILL, Neb, Purdue missing bowl games, the only games left for the Big Ten West are Iowa-Tenn and Wisc-LSU, which will be played at the same time on NYD.

Although PSU and Ohio St will be playing SEC teams on Fri-Sat, so that will help us see how the Big Ten overall is doing against the SEC.

5 Stars? I'm just an Iowa fan, never heard of 5 stars, are we playing against someone's army? I was just looking to take a nice nap, starting at Noon, 1/1/24 on ABC, please none of this 5 Star, Army, let's take a hill kind of stuff. Peace and Love in 2024.

Why can’t Lainez get some meaningful snaps in this exhibition game?
In the dictionary, it says "See Kirk Ferentz". Oh, and see BF, for only a short 4 hours in 2024. Oh, for all of you Math junkies out there, Brian will only be with us for 4 hours out of 8760, in 2024, a minor irritation.

Cyclone Larry, you mean to tell us, that you aren’t jacked for Friday? With Oklahoma and Texas leaving the conference, isn’t this the beginning, where you guys dominate college football?

Wow, Bubba, you need to check your intel, it ain't good, 17 of my family going back are Iowa grads. That's the problem with this infantile website, someone actually pulls the curtain back and suggests that the Black and Gold may not be the ultimate in sports, and your default must be a Cyclone trolling. Oh, get used to it, my opinion, when the new alignment takes hold next year, Iowa will be doing good to get an invite to the Mayo Bowl, Basketball is whole different cluster F, wishing you a Happy and Healthy 2024!

I never doubted either game. I said 10-2, losses to Penn State and a random other Big Ten loss. Thought that would be Wisconsin and the Minnesota loss was just fabricated by a gambling replay official. Real good chance to be 11-3 to finish the season. That is always a great season at Iowa.

You forgot that next year is a leap year. Make that 8784.

I have no idea what to expect. We are playing on New Years Day against a good SEC team so it will mean a lot to these Iowa players.

If Hill can hang onto the dang ball, we have a chance.

Bowl games matter to the players playing in the game. I’ll always believe that.

Why can’t Lainez get some meaningful snaps in this exhibition game?
TN starting a Freshman QB.
OU and AZ starting Freshmen QBs.
Not playing Lainez would illustrate how risk averse KF is - even in a meaningless exhibition game.
To the future detriment of the program.
