TELL ME WHY

How do we not have Micah Hyde returning kicks? With that freakish speed, it seems like a no brainer. What do you guys think?

He's fast, but I wouldn't call it freakish speed. Anyway, Canzeri can do it so we don't have to risk a starting CB.

Ain't nothin' but a heartache,
Tell me why,
Ain't nothin' but a mistake,
Tell me why,
I never wanna hear you say,
I want it that way
I LOVE BACKSTREET BOYS!

Oh, not the topic. My bad

Tweeter: I know those lyrics, Wayne!

Tell me why you cried, and why you lied to me,

Wayne: Let's see if you're correct, Tweeter!

Wayne: We didn't lie, and there's no need to cry! Way to go, Tweeter!

Tweeter: Thanks, Wayne!

Micah Hyde does not have freakish speed. He has really good awareness. I'd like to see him on punt return, not kick off return.

Last year he prob wasn't considered because very little depth at CB and him being hurt would of have been a major problem.

Considering the awareness he had on his interception returns, I think he'd be great on returns. Not freakishly fast, as others have mentioned, but if you can see the blocks and make moves, you don't always have to be. He'd be pretty good on punt returns. Downside is, he's a starting CB and we aren't exactly stacked with experience at that position. With fresh safeties next year, you'll probably need experienced CBs to help them out.

Canzeri, has also shown some great awareness and speed on those highlight reels he had for recruiting. It may not be against DI talent, but I think there's some potential there. Hopefully have him and perhaps some one like DJK back to return kickoffs. It's a great way to get freshmen involved on the team, if they're not starting, and God knows special teams is a spot we could use some help with.

Returning punts and kicks isnt about blazing speed. Its about vision and judging angles of would be tacklers. Good, quick moves and a good burst is what is needed.
Micah has all of the tools to return both but I dont think KF wants to risk a starting CB to injury.
I would love to see him get a shot at it.

We gave Spievey time back there last year (not long, because he didn't pan out), Sash too. Jovon Johnson got quite a bit of time returning punts his senior year.

If Hyde can make the catch and not be reckless in doing so, I see no reason for him to not be back there.

First, not quite sure where "freakish" came from. Fast? Yes. Freakish? Hardly.

Second, he is still learning the CB position, where we already have less depth than we might "want/need". Not sure that is a risk worth taking.

It's really a different mindset than simply having "speed". He's been moved to the D side (having played O side extensively in HS). If he were a converted WR or RB, that would be one thing, as blocking schemes, return formations, etc., might be part of what he already learns on O side. But part of his success on returning INTs has to do with the fact that he is returning them against personnel that doesn't practice reading the other teams offense or return formations/schemes, but instead, trying to exploit our D weaknesses.

I could see using Prater and Hyde as "second/up" guys on punt returns, but KORs are a different story.

It might be semantics but I'd say he displayed borderline freakish speed on both of these returns. In both instances he outruns the offense going across the length of the field, and out runs additional players (some that have angles on him) to get to the end zone.

I took a chance, i took a shot
And you might think I'm bulletproof, but I'm not
You took a swing, i took it hard
And down here from the ground i see who you are

I'm sick and tired of your attitude
I'm feeling like I don't know you
You tell me that that you love me then cut me down
And I need you like a heartbeat
But you know you got a mean streak
Makes me run for cover when you're
And here's to you and your temper
Yes, I remember what you said last night
And I know that you see what you're doing to me
Tell me why

You could write a book on how to ruin someone's perfect day
Well I get so confused and frustrated
Forget what I'm trying to say, oh

I'm sick and tired of your reasons
I got no one to believe in
You tell me that you want me, then push me around
And I need you like a heartbeat
But you know you got a mean streak
Makes me run for cover when you're around
Here's to you and your temper
Yes, I remember what you said last night
And I know that you see what you're doing to me
Tell me why

Why...do you have to make me feel small
So you can feel whole inside
Why...do you have to put down my dreams
So you're the only thing on my mind

I'm sick and tired of your attitude
I'm feeling like i don't know you
You tell me that you love me then cut me down
I'm sick and tired of your reasons
I've got no one to believe in
You ask me for my love, the you push me around
Here's to you and your temper
Yes, I remember what you said last night
And I know that you see what you're doing to me
Tell me why
Why, tell me why

I take a step back, let you go
I told you I wasn't bulletproof
Now you know

Hyde has great hands btw, in an interview Ferentz said Hyde would probably be on the otherside of the ball if we didn't need the help at CB.

And on punt coverage he made a blind over the had catch while running at full speed... so yeah.. he can catch punts. The only reason he wasn't probably was our lack of depth at his position last year and not wanting to put too much on someone that already developing experience first for CB.
