Head to head matters very little when it comes to rivalry games. Iowa has been significantly better than ISU over any extended time period that you look at. ISU will claim to be as good as Iowa if they beat Iowa, but Iowa goes 11-1 and ISU goes 3-9. Whatever helps them feel better I guess.

That is an argument a team that loses makes. Head to head matters. Just kills me when a team gets beat by another and still cries yeah but we are still better. C'mon. I know there are ISU fans that do this same thing. We beat them this year and they downplay Iowa. They beat us last year, we downplay them. It's like 4th grade crap.

Ummm, we downplayed ISU 2 years ago because they were 2-10. They beat us, they were not a better team. That is like saying that UNI is a better BB team than ISU this year. It simply isn't true, sure UNI won that game, but the team/season for ISU is 100x greater than UNI.

It may be annoying, but in many cases there is a lot of truth to it. The better team doesn't always win. As Dean said, in basketball UNI isn't better than ISU. Augustana isn't better than Iowa. ISU isn't better than Iowa. Ole Miss wasn't better than Alabama. On the given days that they played they were the better team, but overall the results show that if they met 10 times the better team would win 7 or 8 of them.

I think its because of the Rose Bowl loss to be honest. Nobody wants to play for a team that loses the Rose Bowl.

And I would say the probability of getting into the playoff go down. We are Iowa. We pretty much have to go undefeated. That is just the world we live in. We are in the playoff on week 1 of the season. If they switch to an 8 team playoff then I think we have room to lose 1. Our schedules get a lot tougher now with the two easy east teams dropping off and bringing on Michigan and Penn State. And if the new ISU coach can raise their level of play to where they are at least in the middle of the Big 12 I don't see how that hurts Iowa. Who else is Iowa going to play instead, Vanderbilt??? We aren't going to the west of the Missouri River for a home and away I can tell you that. If you were making your argument you should be arguing to get Miami of Ohio or Wyoming off our schedule or North Dakota State or Illinois State, etc. Playing those games are weaker than playing ISU and from a fan in attendance perspective it is one hell of a lot more fun to go to an Iowa State vs Iowa game at Kinnick or in Ames rather than watch Iowa play Miami of Ohio.

Well sure our chances go down in the way your thinking. But it goes up in the sense that if Iowa wins there's no debating their worthiness of being in it. If we are good and deserve it then lets play worthy opponents. Not cower in the corner with a weak schedule and try and argue we are worthy just because we beat lessor teams. ISU will have to get good first before I assume that'll happen. So far they aren't. And I agree we shouldn't be playing the NDSUs Wyomings MAC schools either. Maybe one to start off the year. I just don't want 3 or 4 cupcakes is what I'm saying. I'm not a big fan of going to AZ again or CA for matchups. But there are SEC teams that might. Mizzu might, our boy Bielema in AR might. I'd rather watch us play any name team from the SEC then ISU period.
