What in the ???? Another 4 start (not named Lazard) picked Iowa State yesterday??? Maybe make things a little more fun in the rivalry in next couple years.

just fyi - who were the "4 stars" other options......... ?? and what is the background of said "4 star"??

the qb was a former 4 star out of high school who left Georgia and chose ISU over a community college.
Park was 3rd on the depth chart at UGA behind Ramsey and Bauta. Then, Lambert transferred into UGA and Park saw that he was going to be 4th on the depth chart and decided to go elsewhere. Living in ATL, I saw most of UGA's games this year and Lambert, Bauta and Ramsey were all terrible. So that's not a good sign regarding Park. But sometimes a change of scenery can work wonders, so it might be a good pickup for ISU.

is this the kid with the alabama offer?

Not sure, but he IS the one that couldn't pick up the offense, was said to be nothing more than a playground quarterback, was buried on the depth chart with no rise in sight, and was said to be too immature to play in college because, for one, he didn't like to be yelled at.

However, he could be Manziel 2.0 and I don't mean that in a bad way.

Most of Campbells recruits to ISU were guys he had going to Toledo. I'm not saying he's a bad recruiter but we'll see what he does based on how the clowns perform rather than how Toledo performed. I'm sure some of the recruits will pan out but remember most of these guys were MAC level recruits not power 5 recruits just like the most successful coach in ISU history was pulling in. I do believe they'll be better under Campbell if for no other reason than he has head coaching experience unlike Rhoads.

It would be hard to do worse than Rhoads. They have what, 8 wins total over the past 3 seasons?

I figured this thread was about Nebraska since they are in our conference. I really don't waste too many thoughts on the clowns.....

I did too... And since their class is just ahead of ours after getting the Farinok kid and all I thought the same thing you did... ISU? Pfff who cares. They still can't block anyone and I seriously hope that we can stop playing them and schedule a real team that'll help our SOS... It's a one sided rivalry that just don't benefit Iowa much...

The level of recruiting between the 25th ranked team and the 75th ranked team is pretty negligible. It's what those schools can get out of those recruits. Unless you are a program who can consistently recruit elite talent development is always more important.

I will admit that I've been pretty impressed with the recruits Campbell has been able to get in his short time in Ames. We're talking about Iowa State here. He managed to convince a number of decent players to come play ball for him. That's an accomplishment considering how horrible their program is. Clearly he's a pretty good salesman. The key though... it's all about development. What can he do with these players? Cyclone fans can bust a nut over these guys, but it doesn't make a damn bit of difference to me until I see a better product on the field. If that happens I'll give credit where it's due.

It was a one side rivalry in the 80s and 90s, but since then even though it pains to admit it has been pretty damn even. Yes when they win they typically are not blowing us out but they have won and it has not been one sided. Let's just admit that. Does it do us any good? It didn't hurt us this year. Another thing we have to admit is we are IOWA. We are always going to have to win out most likely to have a realistic chance until they switch the playoff to 8 teams. That is just the way life is. Why you demanding we stop playing them when we play maybe two other cupcakes that we have no rivalry with. Why not get rid of one of those two cupcakes that don't do us any good in SOS?

I don't like Iowa State but I don't have the hatred toward them many on here do. You have to give the new coach credit I would never have believed he could talk some of those kids into going to Ames that he signed. I know it is easier just to hate and downplay their 3 stars versus our 3 stars, etc., when it was just 7 or so months ago most on here were trashing ferentz for bringing in 3 star MAC level talent. Funny how times have changed.

What will likely happen would be one or two good years in Ames and it would be pretty much a given he is hopping off onto a bigger better ship somewhere else.

What I meant by one sided was in which school is benefiting by playing the game. I'm well aware of the records. And no at the end of the day in the polls where it mattered it didn't hurt us. But there's no guarantee down the road it couldn't. The reason it didn't hurt us is because there weren't 2 other undefeated teams. Just Clemson. If you took most any other (within reason) power 5 school and say they ran the table too they'd have been ahead of Iowa based on our SOS I think. And that's what I'm trying to avoid. It won't play out every year where there's just 1 or 2 undefeated teams and the final 4 is easy to pick... Going forward if getting into the final 4 is as much of a goal as getting to the BIG title game is (and it should be) then we must look at every avenue of being able to make that happen. Playing ISU and the other cupcakes we play don't do us much if any good. I say maybe play one to start the year then go to town and build a tough schedule. ISU does little to nothing when it comes to risk vs reward... We win we are relieved and if we lose well it's their super bowl... Hardly worth it....

Head to head matters very little when it comes to rivalry games. Iowa has been significantly better than ISU over any extended time period that you look at. ISU will claim to be as good as Iowa if they beat Iowa, but Iowa goes 11-1 and ISU goes 3-9. Whatever helps them feel better I guess.

I'm pretty sure ISU is in the bottom 5 when it comes to d1 programs/results over the last 50 years.

And I would say the probability of getting into the playoff go down. We are Iowa. We pretty much have to go undefeated. That is just the world we live in. We are in the playoff on week 1 of the season. If they switch to an 8 team playoff then I think we have room to lose 1. Our schedules get a lot tougher now with the two easy east teams dropping off and bringing on Michigan and Penn State. And if the new ISU coach can raise their level of play to where they are at least in the middle of the Big 12 I don't see how that hurts Iowa. Who else is Iowa going to play instead, Vanderbilt??? We aren't going to the west of the Missouri River for a home and away I can tell you that. If you were making your argument you should be arguing to get Miami of Ohio or Wyoming off our schedule or North Dakota State or Illinois State, etc. Playing those games are weaker than playing ISU and from a fan in attendance perspective it is one hell of a lot more fun to go to an Iowa State vs Iowa game at Kinnick or in Ames rather than watch Iowa play Miami of Ohio.
