Tanner Toolson visited yesterday.

This kid reads like he'd be a good addition to the Hawks.

But competition for him should be tough. He played his freshman year at BYU and he visited them again already. Kevin Young wasn't the coach when he played there before so that could make a difference Plus as we've discussed here in HN BYU likely has their NIL house in order.

He's also visiting Utah St which has a pretty strong program.

He's from Vancouver, WA which is a Portland, OR suburb. The article says Gonzaga is interested so that would be in his home state. If Gonzaga comes calling you have to at least listen.

Duke Brennan of Gand Cayou, who is coming in for a visit this week and Toolson would have gone head-to-head maybe 3 times this past season. I hope that a pro and not a con.

The only school I wouldn't worry about is Xavier, somehow, I'm not worried about lil Richie winning over us.

I hope he had a greet visit.

Thanks, good insight.

Josh DIx who would hesitate before shooting

This lad shoots without hesitation immediately

The one thing I didn't like about Josh was he wouldn't shoot when he was open

He would dribble around and pass the ball

He was the one person you want taking a three

You just beat me to that post. Is he from Utah? I am just three miles from the UVU campus. If he is Mormon I like our chances. Is he is still on campus, I can go tell him why he doesn't want to go to TCU.

It worked with moey on the football side of things when moey chose Iowa over Tennessee in football. The rednecks in the South distain Mormons.

Now THIS is the intel I come to HN for.

Highly doubt it. I see he's from Washington state and went to high school there. Just on that alone the chances of him being Mormon are <1%.

He attended BYU for a while. That college is 98 percent Mormon. Also, Washington State and California have high Mormon populations.

As a freshman it is very difficult to get into BYU. I personally know people whose children had 3.96 grade point averages through their entire four years of high school who weren't admitted because that grade point average wasn't good enough.

UVU is made up of Mormons whose grade point average wasn't good enough to gain admittance to BYU. BYU and UVU make up about seventy thousand students between them. Traffic is busy on football Saturdays and my car insurance keeps going up.

Mormons jokingly refer to BYU as Harvard West.

I see where BYU got the number one rated college basketball player. Paid him around seven million dollars. That's likely Iowa's entire NIL for basketball.

From his bio:

  • Served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Jacksonville, Florida
That's correct. I forgot to throw that one in there also.

Iowa City has the highest concentration of Mormons in Iowa. That played a role in why Tony decided to choose Iowa over Tennessee as one of the nation's top rated tight ends along with Iowa's reputation at putting TE's in the NFL.

He made the right decision.

There's always somethin.............

I forgot, Brock Harding is going to TCU.........

Hey, Danny Ainge grew up Mormon in Oregon. He went to BYU, played in the NBA for a bunch of years, won some titles. Became GM in Boston and where is he now? GM with the Utah Jazz.

I spent a night in the BYU/UVU area a couple years ago. Toolson could have kept the same apartment both years and played at either school, they are so close.

Since Toolson went on a mission, he's a little older, probably 23 or 24. Does that make him more mature?

go hawks

These young men give two years of their lives teaching and sharing their religious beliefs to people they have no connection with. They send in their application for a mission and can be sent to anywhere in the world with no knowledge beforehand where they may go or what language they may have to learn.

They are not financially reimbursed for those two years of their life. In many cases they have worked and save up their own money to pay for their two-year missions, which can cost them and/or their families $10k to $15k. They get doors slammed in their face, yelled at, beer cans thrown at them by passing vehicles, and chased by dog's. They are not allowed to have any type of sexual relations with anyone while on their missions.

They are learning to give of themselves in every way for what they believe in for those two years.

"Since Toolson went on a mission, he's a little older, probably 23 or 24. Does that make him more mature?"

What do think???

Feels like it will come down to fit and money. But, mostly money I suspect.

Yep,

In the interview his father also says they should have a decision by or before the weekend.

He also says he wants his son to play at the highest level of competition and names off the conferences that can do that. The big ten conference was the first conference out of his mouth.

Likely his agent is working out the contract to the highest bidder.

I found it interesting that he told Iowa he would make their decision as soon as Iowa needed to know so as not to hinder Iowa’s recruiting of other players. He didn’t say anything in that regard about TCU.

Feels like a lean Iowa, but only if the money is roughly the same.

I cannot imagine how the money has changed what these coaches have to do to put together a roster. No wonder so many good coaches hung up the whistle.
