Tanner Miller to the Packers

Considine was a 4th round pick.

That is not my point, homie. Considine played for NFL 9 teams and had a 11 year career basically doing special teams, nickel packages, mixed in with the occasional start. Is it possible that Miller has a similar career? Doubtful, but it could happen. Considine is/was a better player, but the gap isn't that huge.

Tanner Miller is a gym rat. The guy is cerebral. He is a high motor guy who finds a way to make things happen. He gives 110% on every play. He's never out there taking plays off. Total gym rat.

While I agree that Tanner Miller is a long shot to make the 53 man roster. Pittsburgh's defensive backs were a lot stronger when Greenwood tried to make the team than the competition Miller will face. For what it's worth I think Greenwood would've hooked on with another team if it wasn't for the unfortunate events that followed. Continued prayers go out to him and his family.

lebeau/tomlin liked Greenwood there just wasn't a spot for him at the time. James Harrison was cut 3 times by Pittsburgh and twice by Cinncinati before he stuck with Pittsburgh. he might have been able to find a back up role with the steelers a year or two down the road.

Of course the odds are long. They are long for all UDFA. But the whole posting a stupid 'you serious bro' pic is belittling.

If this wasn't Tanner Miller, nobody would bat an eye about people saying he won't make a roster. But since he was a whipping boy, we're now required to think he'll make it in the NFL? r.

No, but here at least, I like for people not to be delta bravos.

Suggestion box - You know where under everyone's name it says their ranking or status or whatever - yours says Publisher/Founder, MeatMan's says HNLegend, etc. - can you please change the status to Delta Bravo for these delta bravos who feel the need to call out players or ex players? James Morris, Tanner Miller and Zach McCabe seem to be the flavor du jour, but those guys are out there busting their butts for our enjoyment and sure, maybe they're not All-American caliber players, but they chose to come to Iowa and worked their tails off, which should mean something. If you could flag posters as Delta Bravos it would make it much easier for people to read the board and know who to ignore.

Thx,

+1

Ok4p, if I could piggy back here... Let's add "insightful poster" and "meme king/queen" titles, so we know who we're dealing with. Too often I see someone comment and not know if they're actually smart or just found the acorn... If you know what I mean.

Loved the play he made to bring down Denard Robinson in the Big House a couple years back.

One thing you can definitely say about Tanner is that he wasn't afraid to stick his nose in there. He'd come up and make a tackle. Occasionally he'd get juked out pretty good, but he'd definitely try to lay wood more times than not. There's plenty of DB's in the NFL that won't do that.

Deion Sanders won't even try to tackle anyone.

Honestly, that play made me laugh. Not because it was Miller, but because by that point in the season, all you could do was laugh at a play like that. It was the only way to stay sane.

I don't want to put words in his mouth, but maybe any "belittling" that was done was due to this statement:
Now with 3 former Hawkeyes on the Packers defense the Bears will have a hard time moving the ball against them.

Referring to the OP, the Packers/Hawkeye connections are a DT in the starting rotation, a nickel corner/punt returner, and now an UDFA who has yet to take a snap in the NFL...the inference that this signing of Tanner Miller gets the Packers over the hump (referring to the usage of the word "Now" to begin the sentence) against the Bears is just silly.

About the Bears I am just disappointed that they did not pick up Tanner Miller. Their defense could sure use use him. Rather than their rivals signing him. All though I am pretty happy about them signing Don Shumpert with his 4.36 40 time he should be a nice addition, and finally a Hawkeye on the team!

A lot of teams might be able to find a place for him on special teams, but he's not an upgrade in the secondary at all, for Green Bay or Chicago.

Clearly you have not seen the Bears safetys play recently. Major Harris was horrible and is gone, Chris Conte was almost as bad,and probably will be gone, and Craig Steltz is about equal to Tanner Miller, and yet has been on the team for 4 years....and even gets on the field. So, yes, Tanner Miller could help the Bears...who are safety-poor...so much that the Bears snapped up the Packers safety who was the whipping boy up there last season and consider him a contender for playing time...ouch.

Well now I wouldn't say that he would not have beem an upgrade after watching the Bears games towards the end of the season last year. I wish they would have had Miller out there.

Miller couldn't have picked a better team to sign with. GB has 1 NFL level safety on their roster, Morgan Burnett and they drafted Ha Ha so those 2 guys are locks for roster spots and likely starters. Hyde could be switched over to safety because GB is fairly solid at CB.

GB's defensive backs often looked like the Walking Dead out there. Wandering around aimlessly, reaching and grabbing while WRs ran by them. They could use a smart player who can get guys organized and in the right spots.

I hope the Packers do not belittle him by making him attend tedious workouts and run drills and go to practice. He doesn't have any guarantee of a starting spot, but its a mere formality for a guy with his kind of Pro Day numbers, that forty time looks real legit. Its belittling do even suggest that he won't start in the Pro Bowl next February, that is if he isn't Super Bowl MVP.
