Tanner Miller to the Packers

Tanner Miller has signed with the Green Bay Packers as a free agent. I am happy for him but alao disappointed as a Bears fan. Now with 3 former Hawkeyes on the Packers defense the Bears will have a hard time moving the ball against them. Also the Bears really needed a player like Miller to help in their secondary. I am getting tired of the Bears not taking Iowa guys.

For you Miller haters that don't think he can do it, think again. He defied the odds to become a 3 year Big 10 starter, and he will do it again. I just wish it was not for the Packers.

It is true, I heard it on AM 600 this morning.

i know he was invited to camp, that's already been posted about. i was talking about him making the team and all that. i love the hawks, but TM ain't making the 53 man roster. maybe practice squad though.

I'll never understand some fan's desire to belittle players of their favorite team.

belittle? for real? because i don't think Miller has a shot to make the 53 man roster? do you know how many great players Iowa has had that didn't make a roster? IMO Brett Greenwood was waaaaay better and he didn't make it. good grief Jon.

This. He's an UDFA. By default the odds are stacked heavily against him.

I have to agree with Meat. Good luck to him, but I doubt he will make any roster.

It just always seemed that if there was a big passing play...it went right over top of Miller.

Well the Bears listened to me for once, they just picked up Don Shumpert as a free agent! His speed and size should be a good fit with the Bears. I am just so happy to see that they finally signed a Hawkeye! I just read that he ran a 4.36 40, I knew he was fast but that's flat out blazing speed!

His should be a good addition to the Bears special teams, plus as a receiver he has experience going up against Hyde and Miller for when they play the Packers.

Stop belittling these players please, they work too hard to be belittled on the forums.

Yes, being a fan should prevent us from making reasonable assessments of a players' pro outlook. If we dare to suggest a guy won't make a roster, we're belittling them.

If this wasn't Tanner Miller, nobody would bat an eye about people saying he won't make a roster. But since he was a whipping boy, we're now required to think he'll make it in the NFL? Please. He took more flak than he deserved in his three years as a starter, but that doesn't make him an NFL-caliber player.

He might find his niche being a really good special teamer........The days of making it strictly as a special teamer like Bill Bates or Steve Tasker are over, but maybe a Considine route is plausible, highly doubtful, but I could see it happening.

A little more than 20% of the NFL is made of undrafted players. Keep in mind, this usually includes long snappers, kickers, punters, fullbacks, Iowa tight ends, and other roster sports you need to fill, but never draft for.

In a given season, less than 15% of those undrafted players make a team. It either takes a unique situation, or a special player, like Jake Knott, to go undrafted and stick in the league.

Considine was a 4th round pick.

While I agree that Tanner Miller is a long shot to make the 53 man roster. Pittsburgh's defensive backs were a lot stronger when Greenwood tried to make the team than the competition Miller will face. For what it's worth I think Greenwood would've hooked on with another team if it wasn't for the unfortunate events that followed. Continued prayers go out to him and his family.
