Tampa Defensive Back Dane Belton Discusses Hawkeye Commitment

Rob, to me, this is great news. I really think this kid has athleticism we haven't seen in a long, long time, if at all. he could transform our defense.

Edit: I meant to say athleticism at safety.

Love this kids tape. Hard nosed DB with legit speed and power. This kid will be a star in a year or 2.

I seen his shuttle time somewhere and if it's legit, he is pretty fluid. Could have a little better vertical, but not bad. He will be able to work on that.
Hard hitting is always a plus as long as they know to wrap up.
I was reading an article that said out of all hs seniors playing football, only a small, extremely small percentage goes on to play p5 football. So kind of a the best of the best and they might not be as easy to truck as the hs guys who won't make it to a P5 program.

This guy is ranked 76th in the state of FL. I am sure once you get past the top handful, ranking the rest is a bit of a crapshoot, but how nuts is it that there are 76+ kids like this floating around in FL?

I imagine he is going up against a fair amount of talent as it is in FL.

For sure, but you know what I'm saying.
I do like the fact so many recruits are coming in and saying they want to play on Sunday. That means lots of work and hopefully success on Saturday.

Ya of course. There is no HS competition like what you will see in D1, but it is always encouraging to see those skills on display from one of the most talent rich states. It makes me feel all warm and fuzzy about the chances and ability to excel in the B1G.

FWIW, Belton is attending Florida’s Friday Night Lights camp tonight
Not saying you're implying it, but someone on another site wondered if this was similar to breaking our no-visit policy, and I'd say I highly doubt it. The camps are partially for recruiting, but mainly for coaching and learning. In fact, I think this camp is run by Nike and simply hosted at Florida.

Ya I can't see an issue with it if it isn't actually a particular schools recruiting event. I would guess there would be quite a few participants committed to any number of different teams.

I reached out to Dane. I asked him if Iowa had anything to worry about:

"Right now, no, I’m locked in with Iowa."

I asked if he just went to the camp to get in a workout and receive some coaching.

"Yes sir, something like that."

Take it FWIW. It's a long time to signing day and we'll see how things shake out in the fall. Iowa must play well, continue recruiting the verbals and then see what might come their way strong senior seasons.

That slithering noise you just heard in the weeds was Admiral Fleck and Jack Frost waiting their turn to introduce themselves to the young man.

I'm not worried about Minnesota or Nebraska. They have nothing to offer that we don't. Plus we are an NFL factory at his position and they are not. I am however worried that this kid would jump on any big SEC offer. Definitely a Florida or FSU offer would spell doom.

Yep, this is a Florida thing, he aint gonna jump on that sinking row boat of Flecks

Time will tell but you bring up good points about name Florida schools. We seem to be recruiting better down there as of late and it doesn't hurt to have former players like Marcus Paschal coaching Florida high school teams. Time will also tell if Frost took a Florida connection back to Nebraska with him. Some on these boards are already concerned that Frost is winning recruiting battles against us in our own state and with our own legacies.

Neither Nebby or Minnesota have anything to offer that we don't that is correct. The trick is convincing seventeen and eighteen years old not to fall for the sizzle when they can have the steak.
